I believe they are a hundred years or so before GoT

they take place almost 100 years before the current events.
Current characters in the novellas:
Master Aemon is at the citadel
Lord Walder Frey is a young boy (4 years old)
Bloodraven has authority in kings landing.
You could read them at any time. You'll just get some backstory you wouldnt have learned until later on.
Spoilerish but not major:
Apparently, hes planning to write more novellas about dunk & egg. The next (4th) is supposedly going to be titled "The she-wolves of winterfell" and it will be about ser duncan the tall meeting old nan (back in her younger days)

Also, there are 3 other novellas. Has anyone read them? It sounds like its just chapters taken from the books (dany & greyjoys). I'm curious if there is any original material in there

I guess this is going in the anthology Dangerous Women? I saw on his blog that this is coming out and he is just starting on another called Rogues. No word on a Dunk & Egg story for that one. I want the story of Bloodraven being sent to the wall, and what becomes of Shiera Seastar, and of course Summerhall.

There's one that is just Dany's POVs from GoT, and one that gathers the ironborn POVs. I'm not familiar with a third but its probably along the same lines.

The novellas are great. They are a must read for anyone that is a big ASOIAF fan. Trial of 7 was pretty awesome.

No one commented, so I wasn't sure if no one go it or if it just wasn't very clever.
