they knew the size of the army. They knew they wouldn't be marching in formation. They knew it would be a massive overwhelming horde of chopping and ripping undead hell.
Why would you send a mounted inferior force right into the belly of that beast. It makes no sense at all from a strategic standpoint.

'm on the fence with yalls recent Dothraki charge argument. To SFP and Coco's point, that was an ignorant battle tactic to blindly send your cavalry against a hoard that massively outnumbers them.
It was like Pickett's charge.Had no real chance of succeeding and basically let everyone else know they were doomed.

the defensive use of cavalry in the history of warfare? Cavalry fricking CHARGE. It's what they do.

dude, the lighting and direction of that episode was horrid
we can disagree with the plot/story/character issues, but the direction of that episode was utterly shite

regarding Mel's death
I don't know if that was, like you said, her signaling that her purpose was served, or that she read the flames wrong again actually lived, and just decided to take it into her own hands and make sure she didn't survive the night
or both

Early on you lose the guy from the Watch. But after that?
He's been on the show since season one, and he has a pretty easy name to remember, you think you'd know it by now.
quote:
Beric is a character who’s been looking for his final death since he reappeared.
Theon is also a character who has been searching for death for several seasons. It was the only way he could redeem himself.
And Melisandre told us that she would die. And kills herself.
Jorah is the one I would concede, but he also lives to serve Dani. And so his death feels character driven.
-
Greyworm, and the defenders in courtyard should have died. If only because of how they staged that sequence.
So most of the main deaths dont really count because they were predictable yet your mad Greyworm didnt die? His death would have been arguably the most predictable out of all the long running characters. So even if he died, you would be complaining about it too. Add Lady Mormont to the list as well.

And I don’t know if anyone should have made it out of the crypt.
And im sure a ton of people didnt.

That was weird too. Felt awfully weird for her to kill herself after they won. I guess you can chalk it up to "my purpose has been served," but outside of lighting some shite on fire she really served no purpose whatsoever (unless you count the Arya pep talk).
I think my issues with the episode, even though I liked it, were how some things played out. They could have given her a better death.
1)dying as she sets the trench on fire to save the retreat
2) Saving Davos from death
3) or setting herself on fire to take out a few WW to stop some of the dead.
Her death was very underwhelming

I thought the direction was pretty fantastic
I think it's pretty obvious that you decided you were going to hate everything about this season before you even watched it

NK and the others deserved so much more but they were fricked with Martin not having anymore material available.
The writers of the show had to pretty much just end the NK storyline which is unfortunate.
Yea the way things are going with the story and these characters, i full expect a fairy tell ending.

Does Gilly survive in the crypt?
Some girl got drug off my wights early in that scene but I wasn’t sure if it was her or not.

No. They got hated on because they were cliche and considered predictable.
Now that they didnt happen, they get hated on because it wasnt what people expected.

If grey worm or missandei die then game of thrones will get fined by Hollywood for not meeting the diversity quota

I would like to know what result would’ve made people happy. Front the comments in the thread,
1. Everyone dies except Jon, Jaime, Bran, and maybe a few others.
2. Night King is in battle wrecking shite Sauron style.
3. Dead Starks defend the living in the crypts.
4. Ghost dies attacking Viserion allowing Jon to attack the NK.
5. Just as the NK is about to kill Jon, Jaime kills the NK. Some comment about Kingslayer ensues.
Did I miss anything?
Yes, my problem was Arya sneaking through all the MFers to use her 65" vertical on the Night King. I thought that whole sequence was horrible. Episode was fine otherwise.

They also knew that anybody that died became members of the AotD as well. So that raid literally did nothing more than add to the NK's infantry numbers.

The whole point of the Dothraki horde was that they completely run over opponents in battle with their initial charge.
1. It was pitch black, they couldn't see shite.
2. Apparently they didn't have/want dragonglass.
3. Jon and Daenerys knew the size of the army.
4. Red Woman gave them fire blades otherwise it would've been worse.

A distraction that would warrant Arya sneaking up on the Night King and slipping past 10+ of the baddest things on the planet

To me it feels like they've been setting up Sansa to be the one to sit on the Iron Throne. She's the only one that's still playing the game besides Cersei but everyone hates Cersei and will band together against her in a battle that will probably leave Sansa as the last woman standing. The moment she had with The Hand of the Queen last night was just one more piece of the puzzle IMO.
