that's funny b/c your complaints about the episode are a lot in line with mine
Well yeah. When you bitch about everything, of course your complaints will align with other peoples'.
I still thought it was a good episode. I just wish more important people would have died.
Also, I have a question about "winter."
I know the Starks have the saying "Winter is coming." But that doesn't just mean WWs though, right? Because they haven't stormed south in what, a thousand years or so? But we have heard all through the show that winter (as in actual, cold winter) has happened numerous times in many characters' lifetimes. So is the Stark saying talking about actual Winter, as in prepare for the cold? Or is it about the WWs?

are y'all forgetting that Qyburn built the scorpion
no, but that's a shitty weapon that CAN take out dragons but isn't really likely to succeed
you need what they got when the dragons first got to Westeros, where one just stands on the ground still for a long period of time

what? no
they are flanking tools. you need heavy infantry up front (the unsullied, literally) for the assault
cavalry is for the flanks to keep the enemy's lines at a reasonable length and to flank/circle them and disrupt the lines

How? They literally ran into the pitch black (and ice/snow) and were devoured in seconds.
You don't think letting the dead, I don't know...get a little closer...would've been a better strategy? It's not like the Dothraki couldn't have still ridden on their horses and charged. But to run off a mile plus into the dead of night, and the mouth of the dead?

not gonna lie, I wanted TNK to march on King's Landing
that's not something i really wanted in terms of the show itself, but how D/D have set up the show? yeah that's the story that most made sense
just have the dead overunn Winterfell and destroy half or 2/3 of the people but just keep going
tying them to Bran makes no sense b/c they were marching south beyond where the 3ER lived to start the show

the Starks and WWs are intertwined in the books and the WWs are winter personified
this was also in the show. the Knight's Watch leader who fell in love with the WW female was likely a stark
that phrase is a lot more layered in the books

I agree with that, and that is something that makes no sense to me. They've been marching south long before Bran was the 3ER. And all we've heard for seasons over seasons is that they want to destroy humanity as a whole. It's never been "they want to kill the 3ER."
And I just thought of something when seeing talk of the scorpion weapon. Where was Bronn last night? I guess he's just not gotten to Winterfell yet? I thought for sure he'd show up at some point.

They should not have been on the field at all. The size of the NK's army was known to be massive. Calvary isn't effective against overwhelming numbers. They should have been south of Winterfell to guard a potential retreat. That way they continue to be a force for the fight with Cersai.
As it is Dany led them from their homeland to be eradicated in 40 seconds.

i just think it is a difficult story to finish. D/D just turned the show from elite quality to really bad quality when they ran things
Pretty much every complaint the last 2 seasons seems to be about things not being properly fleshed out. We know for a fact that budget limits the story telling, they talked about that when discussing the zombie polar bear. We also know that episodes with dragons and epic battles are expensive. I think the reason we have shortened seasons 7 and 8 is the budget. Expand those to full seasons and I wonder if we have the same problem of super sonic dragons and Arya "coming out of nowhere".
Why would HBO get cheap with their golden goose? Well about the same time AT&T was looking to buy them so they probably were told to keep the books clean.

NK and the others deserved so much more but they were fricked with Martin not having anymore material available.
The writers of the show had to pretty much just end the NK storyline which is unfortunate.

The episode was good, and its a all fictional, but I just don't understand the battle strategy. Why didn't they just build the giant fire moat around the castle and Jon and Dany just circle the perimeter burning all of the dead? Everything they did seemed pretty stupid to me. Instead you have Jon and Dany riding around aimlessly.

This is an example of the problem I have with the show since they passed the books. There is just little depth or development to anything. It all feels rushed and hollow.

Good post
For those bitching about Arya it's not like they didn't play the audience's emotions terrifically in that scene.
She's flies in out of nowhere and your like "Don't know how, but YES!".
Then NK spins and catches her midair and your like " Oh chit".
Then dagger drops and your like "She's f'd....NK gonna win this whole shebang".
Then she used her training, catches the dagger and stabs him between two plates of shielding/armor and your back to " YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!."
All this in the space of 5 seconds or so....talk about one helluva rollercoaster ride.

Right. It obviously failed. But this is what the Dothraki were known for. Nobody knew what they were about to face.

That’s what happens when the source material runs out.

Pretty sure dragonglass kills them instantly. Arya stabbed that one in the chin and it died instantly.
Otherwise, the focus on getting the dragon glass would have been completely pointless considering they literally fight 0 white walkers the entire episode.

Just getting to the thread. Not surprising the first thing I read us SFP bitching about every minute thing. Hood lord just take your ball and go home and stop posting in here.

HBO handed them a blank checkbook, and wanted more episodes. D&D chose this path. It is known.
