I view this episode as 'the calm before the storm.' Setting up (or continuing) a lot of plot threads. The best is yet to come (but Theon isn't )

More convinced than ever white walker threat will be over by mid season. The rest is the “Game of Thrones”.

If you think she's acting like a petulant little bitch now, wait until she finds out that she isn't the rightful Queen of the 7 kingdoms.

I'm calling it right now.

Wheels (Bran) is going to mount a dragon (one way or another) for the win!

Remember you heard it here first on roller derby.

I’m hoping we get some resolution to why “there must always be a Stark in Winterfell.”

I get the whole notion of primogeniture giving JS the throne.

However, RB led a rebellion and the Targs were dethroned and a new king was recognized. Many of the houses supported the rebellion and those who didn’t , bent the knee.

Gendry could be legitimized as his son and then have a bloodline claim to the throne.
IMO, this would take precedent and plus....a shitty as things are...much of Westeros doesn’t seem too keen on having another Targ in charge.

Did people really think it would just jump right into the fighting or what?

No, no one thought this. Everyone knew this episode would be mostly about reunions. Some people just thought those reunions were underwhelming.

The most anticipated reunion was probably Jon/Arya. What we get is Arya defending Sansa, saying Sansa is the smartest person she ever met, and threatening Jon. I’m sorry, but wasn’t a large part of last season spent with Arya watching as Sansa was being played by Littlefinger, and basically plotting against Jon?

The way the Jon riding the dragon stuff was handled was silly. Seemed like it was played up as a comedy scene. Then the cheesy part with the dragon being jealous or whatever.

The saving grace of the episode was from Dany and Jorah finding Sam, to Sam telling Jon. Everything before that was really not that great. I think people liked the reunions and Jon riding the dragon because they have been waiting to see that stuff more so than it actually being well-done.

I don’t know how Jon isn’t pulling his damn hair out. Dude is out here doing everything he can think of to save the world, and people supposedly close to him keep turning on him for it. Literally all the guy cares about is saving everyone’s asses, yet he is made out to be some idiot that doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Sansa is being portrayed as the smart, loyal person, but she has been lying to Jon from the moment she met Littlefinger in the barn. Nearly got Jon killed for no reason. Seriously thought about plotting against him because she wants to rule Winterfell. She seems to be putting her personal beefs ahead of an army of the dead trying to end the world.

This.

Other than that, it was fine. Some people over analyze much.

You know those two guys you love and get drunk with? Here’s 20 million dollars for you to kill them both. It’s totally worth it!

What a fricking joke. No one would ever take that deal that was capable of any human bonding, which Bron is.

I don’t think Bronn will go through with it, but I’m guessing he is just a diversion and Cersei has a back up plan.

If he does it, great. If not, him telling them that Cersei paid him to kill them will actually make them lower their defenses and her other assassin will get them while they are all drinking and laughing about it or something.

At least that would be her plan. And if he stays loyal to the brothers, then at least she got him out of KL.

Count me in the camp that enjoyed the episode, even The Neverending Story/A Whole New World bit.

It wasn't just "set up". All of the reunions were important and I’d been waiting for years to see them. These were resolutions for characters, not just set up for what is to come. They paid off for the most part even though it was short clips of each.

And Jon riding The Dragon was actually huge, even if the picnic/booty call was somewhat cheesy (is it though?? Dany has always been DTF. Just needed some privacy.) But Jon riding a dragon is going to make Dany understand when The truth about Jon is finally revealed.

The royal procession coming into Winterfell was awesome, and a great call back to the pilot.

Arya/Bran seeing Jon again were such big moments.

I also liked Tyrion seeing his wife Sansa again. Would really not be a bit upset if they ended up together, although I doubt it.

Arya and Hound was a bit disappointing. Would have liked to see a bit more soft touch there, but I get that in his way that was giving her respect.

Jamie seeing Bran was incredible and the perfect ending to parallel the pilot again. Full circle. What a reaction by Jamie. Cannot wait for that scene next episode

Really the only part of the whole episode that didn’t hit for me was the KL stuff. The Bronn scene was a waste of time and Euron is by far the worst part of the show. I just don’t care about him and I don’t believe Cersei would be drawn in by him either. Totally forced and a waste of time. Just nothing else to give her screen time I guess.

Theon’s reaction was solid. Really showed how compelled he is to go back to Winterfell to try to make up for all that he did.

Dany and Sam was great at first, but I did find Sam’s reaction a bit forced. But that being what pushes the reveal to Jon was worth it.

I thought that was rushed, but Jon’s reaction and the shot with Ned’s tomb in the background as they talk about how honorable he was and how his lying to Jon was to honor his mother’s wish to protect him was outstanding. Very good payoff but a bit rushed.

And that’s really my only complaint. It was just too short. They could have made the exact same show, scene for scene, but just given us an extra minute or two for those scenes and it would have been perfect. This show has always been dialogue and plot driven to me, and not getting a bit more from those scenes just seems like such a waste. Let the actors and characters do work. Except Bran. By the old gods and the new he is bad

Instead of the 50 minute actual show time give us 75 minutes or whatever, which is pretty much what they had hinted we would get every episode, and it could have been up there with the best. After only seven episodes in three years and almost two years since the last one, we really deserved it.

Still, it was just so great being back in that world again and seeing it all on screen again definitely has me ready for this final run.

The dragons acting like territorial dogs was silly, but I think the point they were trying to get at with flying to the waterfall and having a moment is these are the 2 most powerful people in all of Westeros and their destiny is not their own. They can’t run away or hide. They must potentially sacrifice themselves for the greater good.

Her know-it-all attitude sucks and her arrogance is misplaced. She hasn't done jack shite to "earn" anything

Remember when she was young highborn, naive, and didn't know anything? She thought life was going to be a happy fairy tail. Then she became a prisoner, manipulated, betrayed, bartered, raped, abused, etc. She then saves Jon Snow's life, the northern army, and the family name. We assume she outwits Littlefinger and gets her revenge.

But she really hasn't earned jack shite. I don't she it as arrogance as much as a little bitterness of what was dealt her way.

Whats a fantasy without a little dragon riding and kiss by a waterfall in the middle of a frozen wasteland?

Littlefinger made that move solely based on her being a Stark, not because she has a great mind or has really gained the people's trust.

The dragon riding scene was lame, it was built up last season but they wasted it on a Neverending Story type scene.

Overall I thought the episode was good. It got some stuff out of the way, and set us up for the rest of the season.

I'm going to guess a spear with a detachable head that can used as a dagger. Basically something with extended reach but still useful for close quarters fighting.

Arya learned to fight blind with a Staff I was thinking a staff with some type of dragon glass tip. I guess your spear is pretty much a staff with a dragon glass blade tip just a little larger in scale to what I imagined.
