I'm guessing D&D were pulling out their hair after the Season 6 finale that a large portion of the viewers still had no idea what the Tower of Joy meant, so they really downed it to the lowest common denominator.
No doubt they have been forced to dumb down many aspects of the plot to accommodate the fan that is either to casual or to dumb to put the pieces together. I've already had to explain to multiple people that Jon wasnt Dannys brother.

Littlefinger deserved a better ending.

Enjoyed the season finale, it wasn't perfect and was definitely not as good as The Winds of Winter last year but I still came away satisfied. Curious to see how Dany and Jon ( he'll always be Jon to me) handle the news of them being related. How do you think the Northmen receive Jon knowing he is half Targ. Littlefinger not being around keeps the shite stirring down to a minimum I would think in respect to this. People saying Winterfell is unprotected I think forget about the Knights of the Vale which is a large Calvary.

The first one Jon killed in Castle Black. He died beyond the wall but was brought through the wall before he turned.
I feel reasonably certain he was already turned. We've never since then seen someone rise South of the Wall and the Night's King wasn't there either. It's just the Night's King wanted him to act dead just as the wights did in the opening scene of the series.

Well, previously he was thought to be a Stark/Martell mix (dorne). Now we know he is a Stark/Targ mix. Not a whole lot of difference.
I would guess the clear thinking ones (if they are any) would realize having John be KOTN and having a claim to the throne of the 7 Kingdoms only strengthens their hand. I would hope that they can see past their (unfounded?) hatred of the Targs.
But he is coming back with a Targ Quenn and half Targ blood so you never know.
I do think the NK breaching the wall will put ALL OF THAT on the back burner.

And it still wasn't enough.
I think this is being rather unfair to Hodors. The problem is that there are no unimportant details in this show, and despite a picture being worth 1000 words, video is not the best medium to be distributing all of these details. There are quite a few things I think I've picked up on mainly because of these threads informing me what to look out for, not because of what I was able to pick out of the scene naturally.
Howland Reed has been a huge deal to many maesters in these threads, but I'm willing to guess 99% of Hodors have no idea who he is. What little screen time he has gotten he seemed to be in the periphery. I think finding out that Jon is Ned's nephew and not his bastard is really about all the information most people would take from the Tower of Joy scene. The people that were at the initial fight with Ned and who survived seemed pretty inconsequential.

Aegon of House Targaryen; sixth of his name; the Bastard of Winterfell; the 998th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch; the White Wolf; the King in the North; the Resurrected; the Rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms, the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men; Protector of the Realm; the Prince That was Promised; the motherfricker of dragons

yeah well the writers have obviously given up any sort of logic by this season so i don't think we can use anything as a definitive rule anymore
You failing to understand simple shite does not mean the writers abandoned logic.
Arguing the plan is a weak plot point because it's extremely high risk/low reward? Okay, valid criticism.
Making up your own logic to find something else to complain about? Yeah, that's not on the showrunners.

Yup. Sam made a comment that their bodies hadn't begin to rot as they should have, and in the books, their eyes were already blue.

Nothing could die south of the wall and rise because there was no Night King taint but I have always been under the impression that the Night King's power (and thus control) ended at the Wall.

So zombie Littlefinger confirmed?
And can NK just start raising any dead people in his vicinity, even if they are long buried in the crypts?

two things are bugging me
1) LF had no reason to hang around winterfell, especially once jon snow was named king. the LF we knew would have returned to the vale and waited this out, from a position of strength
2) if the golden company is so badass, and they are mostly westerosi exiles with a targareyn axe to grind, whats stopping them from killing cersei and taking the kingdom for themselves? they already have the gold, why not have both?

If they haven't gone to mandatory cremation for all deaths yet, then more shame to them.
But yeah, it's interesting to see what will happen to people previously dead and buried if the NK wants to animate them. Including those in the Winterfell crypts.
