the explanation of the irregular seasons in westeros likely contains the answer of the role of the white walkers in the story. As to what that answer is we don't know yet
The seasons being irregular with (I think) there being evidence that it wasnt always that way is like the hidden underlying plot of the whole story.
Once you start digging into the WOIAF book and listening to some of the more indepth podcasts, eg. HIstory Of Westeros, you get lost in the crazy cool stories of teh great empire of the dawn and mysterious oily black stone, etc.

I must say I'm surprised by how many people seem confused about what happened in Winterfell with Littlefinger's death. I thought it was extremely obvious.

That's a pretty good video and how i feel right now. I was underwhelmed this season and saw too much dumbing down.

Personally I thought it was all an act the entire time from Sansa and Arya and Bran let them know long before on what LF was up to. She just wanted conclusive proof that LF would sink as low as trying to get her to kill her own sister, and once she had the "always assume the worst" from him that's all she needed.

With the Winterfell storyline, the show basically left the viewer with two choices:
A.) assume that every bit of Arya/Bran/Sansa's character development up till now is obsolete and believe what you're watching on screen
B.) accept that the writers are having characters do things just to trick you and set up an ultimate "Gotcha Littlefinger!" payoff

Been meaning to post this since the finale, but was trying to remember if Bran could see EVERYTHING in the books the way he does in the show?
For some reason I thought he could only see the past through the "eyes" of the Weirwood trees, which is why the faces were carved into them.
I understand he could warg into animals to see the present, but specifically seeing things like The Tower of Joy or LF plotting in KL wouldn't happen like that in the book.
Not saying that it ruins anything in the show for me, because I get using his powers as a plot device to reveal things that we saw in other ways in the books.
Just wanted to know if I was remembering that correctly or not.

At this point in the books he can only see the present through animals and weirwoods and the past only through the Weirwoods. However the Three Eyed Crow (as he's called in the books) seems to see in the future and outside of the weirwoods, so I think it's possible Bran can do so, he just hasn't yet. Bran also saw Cersei destroying the Sept in the show, so he has some very limited view of the future.

Do any of the characters in the show realize that if a Walker or the NK get in whatever the range is of their raising powers that they are going to have a undead/already dead wight Mountain on their hands than Cersei cannot control? Maybe that's how he dies, he gets all wighted up and then the Hound kills him with Berric's flaming sword.

Did the mountain fully die? I thought he was dying but not dead when they went to work on him.

Ok thanks. Been a while since I read them and wanted to make sure I had that right

I thought they pumped out all his blood and filled him with some Quyburn concoction. I've always assumed he is undead.

Even if Gregor DID fully die, and Qyburn brought him back, he wasn't raised the same way the NK raises. Neither was UnCat or Beric. Neither was Coldhands or Jonagon.
Especially after GRRM's "Fire Wight" comments.

I don't even care if it was a cheap "gotcha". It was still very satisfying to see him die (and have my faith in Sansa slightly restored).
