to make them fight a battle from both sides. I said that already

How are they getting the equipment to make a pulley system on the wall when they can barely get themselves over the wall?

I think Mance would have taken it with only losing a couple hundred people, and I think there were more giants. Assuming they stuck around after their king died.

I thought it was cool that the giant that got through the gate was the king of the giants, or whatever. And we even got his name and a toast to him (and Grenn).

Also, one more note from me on this episode. I hadn't been on the hating Dany bandwagon until tonight. I mean seriously, if she can't even control her dragons and has to lock them up, what is the point? Her storyline has become a giant buzzkill.

Welcome aboard. One of the main reasons I want to read the books is to see what Martin does with her. There's no way she's as worthless. Her story once again went nowhere this year besides Jorah.
Not a spoiler at all and I have never opened a book. But I did have this explained to me somewhere. Can't remember if it was a friend or a episode review.
Reason on why Danys story is so boring is because she really isn't in the books that much. The show has been dragging out her storyline because of how popular she was in season 1.

so what page does the GOT discussion begin? Im sick of sifting through 12 pages of figs posting bananas 12 hours before the show starts.

Brienne has had the superhero label since Season 2 (and she is probably the most "purely good" character in the GOT universe) - I actually expected her to win considering the show has been hinting @ The Hound's demise all season.
Great fight tho.
Ultimately, I'm just sad to see him go, and will be bitter about it for a while (same with Tywin).

That was a huge failure. Was he just going to keep doing that until it finally worked?
You say he didn't want to risk the lives of the Wildlings by having some of them make the climb, but he's ok with throwing thousands of them at the wall to die?
Like I said, it's a plot hole.

Perceived bad strategy by you isn't a plot hole.
Just FYI.

Yeah he really turned to page to her father figure and their relationship was great TV.
Loved Tywin, sad to see him go, but the hints were there as well. Cersei will keep being a good villain - at least we can all hate her

I think it was a calculated risk that very nearly paid off...Castle Black almost fell for the first time ever with the loss of only a relative handful of his men. Also, the Night's Watch used up almost all of their supplies and he got to see all of their methods and tactics. without Stannis, the castle would have fallen that night or the next day.

The plot hole is the fact that the Wildlings went around destroying entire villages when all they want is to get away from the white walkers.
Posted on 6/16/14 at 10:05 am to Stonehog
I think that Mance knew that they wouldn't just let his people through the gate, so in order to get through the gate they needed to kill the nights watch.
Posted on 6/16/14 at 10:05 am to Stonehog
I think you are exaggerating how many Wildlings died in that episode. The first attack they had was really successful. What did Mance say they probably had left? 50 Nights Watch?

To draw out the crows in the open and kill them and weaken their defense before the big attack. They said this like 50 times

They did that to draw the Crows out of Castle Black which would, in turn, make it easier on Mance to raid the castle/wall.
I'm not sure you actually know what a plot hole is. That's not a plot hole at all...it's the actual plot.

It really is amazing how people need more spelling out than this.
Whoever said we need a comatose khal Drogo thread may be on to something.

I've already explained why there didn't need to be an attack at all. A few Wildlings climb up the wall, they rig a pulley system, lift everyone over the wall and there's no need to attack Castle Black.
Just last week people were asking why the Wildlings went right at Castle Black and not a few miles down the wall. Mance said last night that they are doing exactly that. So to me, the only reason to attack Castle Black is to kill some Crows. Maybe that's not a plot hole to some, but you can admit that it's bad writing.

Don't they still patrol the walls? You can slip a few climbers over unseen sure, but if you rig up a big pulley system and starting pulling thousands of people over they're going to be noticed eventually.
