Just last week people were asking why the Wildlings went right at Castle Black and not a few miles down the wall. Mance said last night that they are doing exactly that. So to me, the only reason to attack Castle Black is to kill some Crows. Maybe that's not a plot hole to some, but you can admit that it's bad writing.
Why is it bad writing? The Wildlings would much rather go through the passage of the wall instead of climbing it, and they would have to take over Castle Black to do that.

Because the attack is unnecessary. These people are used to living in the wilderness, they are running from zombies, but instead of climbing the wall like they do all the time, they would rather have a nice tunnel to walk through. All they have to do is lose thousands of men, giants, mammoths and supplies in the process.

Didn't bother reading the rest of my post?

but instead of climbing the wall like they do all the time,
A wall that is patrolled by the Night's Watch? Seriously, you can't be this stupid.

I've already explained why there didn't need to be an attack at all. A few Wildlings climb up the wall, they rig a pulley system, lift everyone over the wall and there's no need to attack Castle Black.

Dude. The Crows guard CB and the wall, and CB has pretty much the only tunnel through. So of course if Mance wants to get 100K people to the other side of the wall, he needs the tunnel at CB (since he doesn't have ships to sail around).
It's not a plot hole, or bad writing, or whatever other bullshite you want to try to call it. In fact, if a few wildlings climbed the wall and opened the tunnel, THAT would be bad writing, because it would ignore the fact that Crows protect that shite 24/7.
Let's leave the writing up to the actual writers, deal?

I seem to remember when Jon climbed the wall the first time there was nobody up there. I could be remembering it wrong.

We're discussing a tv show, there's no need for this type of trash posting.

The crows and wilding have been feuding for "a thousand years" (ser Alliser voice)
Mance couldn't just walk up and say hey "white walkers are behind us" let us through
And a giant pulley from "wildlings" who don't have the resources or know how, I mean it's a fantasy show but come on
Fighting the crows to get through was the better option that facing white walkers

That was when they sent a very small scout party. Not the same as trying to get their entire group over.

Well, when you continue to say stupid things, eventually you will be called stupid. I'm sorry it hurts your feelings to realize you aren't the smartest person in this room.
ETA: BTW, downvoting my post and upvoting your own is pretty lame.

Yeah in a show with murderous demon queefs, a simple machine is probably too much to expect from a bunch of rabbit fricking hillbillies.

Big difference between a small group scaling the wall and trying to rig a pulley system to move 100,000 people over.

Did you see what it took for the small group Snow was with to make the climb? how are they getting those materials, which they may not even have, up the wall?

So let's speculate....WHO is John Snow really?
a) Son of Ned Stark and some commoner
b) Son of Ned Stark and some Baratheon
c) Son of Ned Stark and some Targarian
d) Son of Lyanna Stark and Robert Baratheon
e) Son of Lyanna Stark and a Targarian
f) Son of some Targarian
h) Someone else?

Did you miss the part last night when Mance said there are Wildlings climbing over the wall five miles away? Funny how no one in the night's watch knows anything about that.
Durrrrrr ur stoopid.

Maybe because all the Nights Watch are currently focused on Castle Black, where they just attacked?

You miss the point where he said many will die attempting it?

Where are these 100,000 people? Stannis just steamrolled Mance with a couple thousand horses

Given the way Melisandre was looking at him last night, I'm starting to think he has king's blood in him.
