As much as I despise joff you can't really blame him. I mean mommy is an crazy incestual skank. Who he thinks is his biological father has never cared anything about him. He has no idea how to run a kingdom because everyone who was supposed to teach him utterly failed the kid. So now he's a teenager with no clue how westeros really works and is supposed to rule it and the only leadership examples he can draw on is robert who was a drunken fool and stories of the mad king. Who is, well, mad.
this lack of accountability is leading to the pussification of Westeros IMO. at what point is joff responsible for his own actions?

naw; a better sports comparison is lane kiffin; born on third base and acts like he hit a triple.

he's 12 when was the last time you saw a responsible 12 year old. He's a product of the people his loser parents surrounded him with. Down the road he may or may not be better than them, but right now at 12 years old his problem is that he was never trained to lead.

ETA: his problem is also that the only person to ever challenge him was his dwarf uncle. He didn't grow up like the starks who walked neds footsteps and grew and learned from it. Hell if I was a betting man I would put my money on that he never even saw robert until robert had to see him

Also, did the Lannisters attack Riverrun because they knew it was only a matter of time before the Tullies and the Starks joined forces?

The Tulley daughters were holding a Lannister hostage, the attack happened before the King died.

The baratheons crest is a stag. The starks a direwolf. The lannisters a lion. The tullys a fish. Every family isn't necessarily an animal though its just whatever emblem they choose to be on their coat of arms. I can't for the life of me think of the arryns sigil though.

hope that the non book readers watching this show are not analyzing each post in this thread, because there is definitely a thinly veiled spoiler for next episode submitted post tonight's episode

I RA'd that post, though there is no category for inappropriate spoiler.

Or start a thread that is for readers who have read up to the exact point you have.

I don't think my starting a thread with the title: A Song of Ice and Fire book thread (Do not post info past p. 124 of AFFC) would go over too well.

I have controlled myself and have not read the book thread. If someeone does not want to risk spoilers for the TV show they can also control themselves and not read this thread in case someone slips up. Most people have been pretty good about limiting what they post, though it only takes one idiot to ruin it. I've only seen one pretty blatant spoiler reference for the finale so far (Do Not read p.71 to avoid this).

have only seen one mention of it here, but it puzzles me that there are ppl out there that are threatening to stop watching bc they dared kill off the hero or person they viewed as the main character. Ned is not the main character, he's a very important character who's death catapults the rest of the story and world into chaos.

HBO defends ep. 9 shocker
Be wary of the reader comments following the EW article, some references to spoilers follow.

HBO doesn't need to defend anything about Ned's death. Now the treatment they gave Tyrion in the battle is another matter.
