a thread for people who have read ALL the books; i haven't so i'm not touching that thread. i see no problem whatsoever in comparing events that already happened on the show to how they were done in the books if they give nothing away to the future of the series. if people want to be 100% surprised about what happens on the show they should probably stay away from anything on the internet having to do with the series because spoilers are everywhere - even the comments section on that youtube video of the guy mourning his **** ned's passing.
Then control yourself until you've read all the books.
Even comparisons can lead to inadvertent spoilers. Or start a thread that is for readers who have read up to the exact point you have. This isn't the thread for it.
I'm not an admin so I can't do shite and you can do whatever you want. But I think its not the place for it.

It is not about spoilers (though they do suck), but this thread is about the HBO series Game of Thrones, not the book series. Saying "well in the book, yada yada yada..." every time something is different becomes quite annoying. Some people do not care about the books, they just want to enjoy the TV series.

Exactly.

having a thread that completely ignores the existence of the books is pretty unrealistic IMO.

I see the point about spoilers, but I don't necessarily agree with the other. You can just not read the posts that are comparing the book with the tv show. Whatever though.

so... back to the show?
Next week is the season finale?
Is it going to be 2 hours?
I understand the oath, but I just don't see Snow staying up north. Especially when he hears that his father is dead. shite, Ned said he would tell snow all about his mom when he got back... and you know Lady Stark isn't... she hated him while he was in winterfell.
Is the family that runs the twins big players in the kingdom? They seem like the the Mississippi of the realm....

It's the finale. I don't think it's 2 hours though.

They aren't minor players, but they aren't as big as the Starks or Lannisters. I'd say they are in the middle.

Haha.
Yes, they are a big player. They control the only means for an army to cross the river and they charge a heavy toll to use their bridge. The Freys have survived by never committing themselves to anyone. They wait until battle or war is over and then show up. There is a lot more that can be said about the Freys but that might be spoilerish.
They are powerful, but not well respected.

Did no one realize that Ned was killed with his own sword?

So does anyone know the details of Robb's battle with Jaime? Does this free up the Tullies to join in with the Starks?
Also, did the Lannisters attack Riverrun because they knew it was only a matter of time before the Tullies and the Starks joined forces? Preemptive strike?

They didn't mention it. I was just wondering if anyone else caught on. That pissed me off to no end when I read the book. Its one thing to kill a man but to do it with his own sword........... just damn

I was a little surprised at Ned losing his head at the end last night.
Likewise but as Joffrey was publicly summarizing the advise and pleas for Ned's life I knew it was all over for Ned though I didn't expect a public execution. I figured it will go down something like Ned being killed by bandits on the road back to Winterfell.

I personally believe Varys was telling the truth to Ned in the dungeons at the beginning of the episode. You could tell from the sound of his voice. He was pretty much begging Ned to forget his honor and lie to the people by admitting his treason. Varys definitely has his motives for wanting peace, but he does want peace.
In retrospect I agree but needless to say neither Varys or Joffrey's own mother had enough insight into just how fricked up Joffrey is. Looks like they have another mad king on their hands.

Same thing I thought. I was shocked Ned "confessed". He should of known that the Lanisters do not have any honor. He should of known that he was done for. Give that punk kid the

As much as I despise joff you can't really blame him. I mean mommy is an crazy incestual skank. Who he thinks is his biological father has never cared anything about him. He has no idea how to run a kingdom because everyone who was supposed to teach him utterly failed the kid. So now he's a teenager with no clue how westeros really works and is supposed to rule it and the only leadership examples he can draw on is robert who was a drunken fool and stories of the mad king. Who is, well, mad.
