If Syrio had had a real sword, there would have been six headless bodies spurting blood in that scene. That dude rocks.
I wish we were getting a more in-depth look into the Hound, but perhaps they are saving that for season 2. The book gave him a definite sympathetic bent that isn't apparent in the show, which is weird because almost everyone else is getting explored MORE and more sympathetically (esp Cersei).
I wanted to see a Cat fight (no pun intended) between Cat and Lysa. I realize it would have been an added scene not from the book, but so was Littlefinger's "I hate the Starks, you whores are doing it wrong" scene, so why not? Lysa needed her arse whipped SO bad in that episode...
Shouldn't we have met the Cranogmen when Robb called the banners, or am I confused? Did they show up late?
Speaking of the bannermen, how awesome is the Great John? That scene where Grey Wind bites off his fingers was exactly as I imagined and he is cast perfectly.

If I remember right, the first time they bring up any Cranogmen is when Meera and Jojen show up in book 2.

Could someone who is reading along please tell me where we are in the book (chapter or page number) in relation to the show. Just bought the book.

I thought I read in the book that someone had seen Syrio's body...maybe Yoren or someone? I thought for sure someone made the comment about seeing his dead body with the Lannister men...and it lead me to believe that he was definitely dead.

Yea I had to run out and get the first book. This show is pretty damn good. I also picked up Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Gotta knock these both out pretty quick.

So what chapter are we on? I don't want to spoil it for myself.

It does not have chapter numbers, but near the end, in my book 637

ah, thanks. I was thinking they came when the bannermen were called then stayed behind when the others left to fight, but this makes sense whey they aren't there yet... next season.

I don't remember this, but I could be wrong. The book was such a page-turner at the end, I may have glossed over some detail. But I remember closing the cover with a glimmer of hope that he *could* be alive. However, I assumed he was more likely dead simply because...
SPOILER.....
The knight left the deal with him (Ser Merwyn?) is mentioned prominantly throughout the remaining story (so he obviously survived, with no mention of a wound) yet so far, halfway through Feast of Crows, no mention of Syrio popping back up... I suppose there are still ways Syrio's survival could be explained, though.

I don't think so but will look for it on the next re-read.

I just finished the book last night and I didn't read any more mention of Syrio so it is totally possible for him to be alive. How many more episodes do we have to the show?
As someone else mentioned the hound definitely has a side not depicted in the show. Very subtle but I don't think he is not a total monster like his brother.

. I think the swordsman and the uncle north of the wall is still alive.
I have no idea as I'm just reading the first book and episode eight just passed me up but I'm hoping the Uncle comes back as one of the others...It would make for an awesome episode with John. I could see the walkers using him for his knowledge.

Episode 8's ratings were a season high.
LINK
Its definitely trending up as the season comes to a close.
However, from what I've heard, HBO will put a great deal more stock in DVD sales and then new subscriptions when Season 2 kicks off. Those things will tell the tale for future seasons.

Wait.... they can do that? I thought they were just like Zombies only harder to kill.
I think the uncle shows up with some valuable knowledge of whats going on beyond the wall.

That is my basic understanding as well. The Others/White Walkers kill you and turn you into a zombie, which is why you have to burn the bodies of your dead.
