It's weird you say this when your complaint is that you felt like it wasn't "video gamey" enough for you.
I agree which just validates it more in my mind. I’ve officially crossed some sort of threshold in life.
It’s either that or there are just a ton more political messages and nonsense in the background of every movie and show I watch. I know it didn’t used to be this way because I went back and watched some of my favorite childhood movies and almost none of them contain constant social and political commentary littered all over the movie.

The only thing I can recall in Free Guy that fits this description was the gun violence thing, which was a joke that was clever.
Was by no means constant.

Commit to the first season of Killing Eve and you'll have your doors blown off. You haven't even seen her accent work yet.

Well…. And the smoking hot chick that the bank robber was with. Turned out to be a lesbian and wrote a book about gender roles. But like you,, I didn’t think it was forced and was more funny than anything else.

I'm dumb, but I did not know until after the movie was over that she played both roles, the Molotov girl and Millie. The drastic difference in hairstyles somehow made her face unrecognizable. (I thought she was gorgeous as a blonde, btw). Maybe covering her eyes with sunglasses also helped with fool m
Further evidence that the Clark Kent disguise may actually work in real life

If you thought Free Guy was jammed packed with social commentary, it doesn’t mean you don’t need to see any new movies, it means you need therapy

I've commented on it before, but any movie or show can have a heavy political lean if you look for it hard enough. I had a way too long post noting all the gender issues of Die Hard, which is one of my favorite movies. Stop letting politics ruin your enjoyment of entertainment.

This. If it's not beating you over the head with "THE MESSAGE" then consider yourself lucky. With one exception (the non-contextual, completely out of place, but also very quick "white privilege" take), the few instances of any "politics" were fairly subtle and were pretty funny (I am as 2nd Amendment as it gets, but the gun violence one was hilarious).

I thought it was pretty cringe and eye roll enduing at times. Don't get all the love..
I'm with you. I Thought it was awful.
The first big fight scene in the cave/lair when they fell out the window I shut it off.

I think 40% of the enjoyment was from all the random cameos/ Easter eggs in the last 20 minutes.
Such a bad arse move. Utterly pointless, but bad arse.

It was a lot better than I thought it would be - although the end got a little too heavy on the "Look at all these various intellectual properties!" It goes to show that if you put enough likeable people in a cast, things generally work out.

Very cool, better than expected.

I watched this yesterday, and put me in the "overrated" camp. It was enjoyable enough, so that's good. But all in all it just wasn't overly good really.
And I agree with the posts saying it was sort of a different version of the LEGO movie or Wreck It Ralph. All in all, not the worst way to spend two hours, but I was expecting it to be a lot better based on things I've seen and read on this board.

Just finished this and I thought it was great. Ryan Reynolds was perfect, and I thought all the Easter eggs were well done.
Apparently the director of this movie is also going to be the director of Deadpool 3.

What? They even nailed subtle things like noob players in the background wildly jumping around or punching the air and stuff just like in real games.
The wife hadn't seen it so I re-watched it to watch it with her. I think I had missed a lot of the background antics the first time. On the 2nd go-round I noticed not only that but "lag" characters in the background sometimes trying to enter buildings through walls and such. It was a nice touch.
