Nope, not getting tricked into getting my hopes up again for one of his movies.

Kind of a shame where Gyllenhaal's career seems to have gone

I find I have enjoyed most of his movies. Sure, some aren't very good, but I have liked a good 8-9 of them.
This seems like one I'd eventually check out during Halloween season once it hits streaming.

What would you say was his peak?

I don’t know but anything after Road House has to be a step up.

So he falls for a ghost? Or an imaginary friend? Oh well, at least Shyamalan can't be accused of plagiarism with this one.

Is this the project Shyamalan is working on with Nicholas Sparks?

I joked when this was first announced that it was going to be a sweeping romance where we eventually find out that one member of the couple was dead the whole time.

The one with his daughter and Josh Hartnett was a disaster.

I agree. He gets a lot of crap because he made the twist his entire gimmick and a number of the twists are just dumb. But, his movies are still entertaining for the most part. However, screw The Happening. That was the worst movie I've ever seen and I will never get over using money during my poor college days to see that in the theatres.

it's a nicholas sparks book, so it's a romance. it's basically a retelling of a "portrait of jenny", joseph cotton falls in love with a ghost jenifer jones, and has to figure out how she died tragically so the ghost can move on to the other side,
it's on nicholas sparks website.
hollywood used to make a lot of films on similar themes, atleast it's not a super hero movie.

I thought it was okay. The first half was definitely better than the second though. But all in all I’d rate it as decent.

The Happening was legit bad. No question.
But I’d rank his movies that I’ve seen as:
Legit great:
Sixth Sense
Signs
Really good:
Unbreakable
Split
The Village (I like this one more than this board does)
Solid:
The Visit
Old
Knock at the Cabin
Decent:
Trap
Glass
Bad:
The Happening
After Earth
I also liked Devil (2010), which he didn’t direct but did write the story for.

I thought Old was pretty bad.
I also liked the Village.
