Now do this with Black Panther!

Is this the one where the white hobbit saved the day at the end of the movie?

You can't pass judgement on those who know more about this than you ever will and expect to not be called out on it. That's what Amazon has done, and that's what you've chosen to do as well.

People who defend diversity casting/hiring don't actually care about what they're discussing.

You would never mention "diversity" when looking for the best doctor to perform a procedure. I'd wager that most people would try to avoid doctors offices that focus on diversity as a priority in general. That's because you actually care about that. Same would be true for anything you value. If you're looking for the best CPA to do your taxes, does the color of that person ever enter your mind? Or do you want the best, with the most experience, that you can afford?

In the case of LOTR, the fact that people involved in this show are so clearly focused on diversity highlights that they do not care about being true to Tolkien's works. If they cared, diversity would not be a consideration. "Diverse cast" and "the best cast" can coexist, but only if diversity is never the priority or consideration. The people involved in this show have made it clear that they went the "diversity hire" route with this show, and it should definitely call into question their ability to make a good adaptation. There is definitely room for actors who aren't white in Tolkien's world, but not in the way they've done it. Elves and dwarves in Tolkien's world are white (or at the very least, light skinned). Straying from this shows where their priorities lie. It's not with making the best LOTR show, it's with checking boxes and inserting identity politics.

I hope the show is amazing and true to Tolkien's works in every other way, but one thing is certain: the people defending these actions do not care about this show being good and will be the first ones to drop it if it doesn't meet even their obviously low expectations.

Already getting ready for the "LOTR fans are racist" narrative. After reading that whole article, this show will be crap.

Yep. "Diversity casting" is armor against "your product sucks."

Fine with her being black.
Irritated there's no beard.
Canonically dwarven women have beards. Apparently gorgeous ones.

It's hilarious that this thread only took two pages to devolve into retards arguing about black dwarves and the problem with interracial dwarf relationships. I don't think any of that shite was in the source material, but Hollywood can't help themselves when it comes to cramming their bullshite into everything they make. It does a disservice to Tolkien, his fans, and interracial couples. Just make a show true to the books and everyone will love it. Nope, they can't do it.

I don’t really care about the race of the cast. Maybe the dwarf woman is from a distant part of Middle Earth.

What I am worried about is the wokeness and deconstruction of the original underlying themes that is almost certain to be present.

Just wait for the troubles of middle earth being blamed on the white men. Should be a blast.

I get what you are saying, but the white men who accepted the rings from Sauron were actually the cause of the troubles of middle earth.

Hollywood goes out of it’s way to cast non-white actors and makes no secret of it. But heaven forbid anyone disagree with that approach when it comes to adapting a well known book where character appearances are described. You’re racist if you even bring it up.

I mean shite y’all, we just saw Amazon absolutely destroy Wheel of Time. It was a dull woke nonsensical mess, and the casting was a huge problem.

So that's definitely some direct to DVD sequel level casting right there.

Unfortunately, some people can't discuss things like this without calling people racist. That happened on page 2, and the thread just ballooned from there.

So instead of signing a young Elrond, they instead went for young Ned Stark. Brilliant.

Will Poulter could have been the actor to play Elrond. But negotiations fell through and now we'll never know how it may have turned out.

Besides the striking resemblance, both Hugo and Will are 6'2".

No they weren't. They became corrupted by him and did his bidding. It's the whole point of the rings.

A YouTuber pointed out that since this is a prequel and there are no black hobbits, etc. in Lord of the Rings, at some point in Middle Earth history, they must have "holocausted" all of the black hobbits, dwarves and elves.

These people have been sociopathically going from one franchise to another, making as shitty a product as possible. There's nothing outrageous about black characters, but it's a common symptom of Hollywood's shitty efforts over the last several years.

I dunno, but for a billion-dollar project.

Bezos is like John Hammond in Jurassic Park.

Spared no expense.

Tell everyone you've never read Tolkien's work without actually saying it.

You put so much effort to justifying every piece of SJW bullshite while maintaining your facade of impartiality. Just be honest and say what you believe: “I support wokeness in all forms. frick you for disagreeing with me.”
