Or is it more in the Christmas list? What other NYE movies out there you can recommend?

Trading Places is Def a New Years Eve film. The climax of the film is on NYD.

The Apartment is also a must watch every NYE if you're staying in.

Is it though, they steal the crop data NYE, but is there any hard evidence that the day of trading is Jan 1 that we see?

Bc NYSE is closed Jan 1, but don’t think the movie ever eludes to or says it’s Jan 1

Trading Places is definitely a New Year's movie. Forrest Gump is another good one. She tasted like cigarettes.

There's an entire sub plot with Louis as a derelict Santa.

It's not only A Christmas movie, it's the BEST Christmas movie.

I would say yes just for the train scene alone.

Always got Go and 200 Cigarettes mixed up. Both take place on/around NYE and have ensemble casts. Jay Mohr is in both of them.

Actually, it’s January 2. If you remember, Penelope‘s mumsy wanted to have a engagement party right after New Year’s, January 2nd to be exact. However, Louis told her that he couldn’t because that’s the day that the crop reports came out. It’s the busiest day of the year in the office at Duke & Duke.

Having said that, I would describe Trading Places more as an overall holiday movie. It starts off right before Thanksgiving. (“it ain’t cool being no jive turkey so close to Thanksgiving") and ends right after New Year’s ("Merry New Year!").

Strange Days (with Ralph Fiennes) is about as NYE as you can get. Always liked it, but it’s a bit dated.
