Yes. I sit in the very last row in the middle. I might sit one or two off due to poor lighting.

if it’s not packed why not pick the seat you want

I mean when you buy the ticket and select a seat

Talk about main character syndrome.

Why make someone have to come talk to you cause youre sitting in someone else's seats?

In a high trust society this is the correct answer.

I can’t say I’ve never moved around after the movie starts and it’s obvious that more desirable seats aren’t available if we’re in a big group. But never to start off.

If we want to move after getting there I’ll check the Fandango app to see which seats weren’t purchased.

(Sometimes an a-hole will buy the seat next to us, even in a half-empty theater.)

I don’t get the game here. If it’s not available for selection, then someone already has that seat.

Now, I suppose it can be reserved and they don’t show up (or a portion of seats are temporarily reserved because they are in carts that haven’t actually been bought).

But if someone shows up, what’s your play? Just get up with a “well I tried” or do you make a scene playing it off like “well it doesn’t really matter.”

Eventually resulting in a thread bitching about getting booted by the usher trying to spin yourself as the real victim here.

The issue with you thinking it’s about you or inconsiderate is the fact that not all seats are equivalent. Personal preferences aside there is a fairly small region of “ideal view”

In some theater set ups it can be really about 5 seats on a single row.

If they are sitting next to you, it’s because they want the same view. You are pretty thin skinned about it if they gave you the courtesy of leaving a gap seat and not RIGHT next to you and yet it still was the worst thing a person can do to irk you.

I promise you there isn't much difference of view between rows 3-6. It's damn near the same view. Saying theres a small region for an ideal view is a stretch. The only truly shitty view in the house is sitting on the bottom rows on the floor because it kills your neck.

Look its not a deal breaker, its not going to ruin the experience for me or make me move, but i know me personally when im choosing my seat at the kiosk and i see a green seat in the middle of an empty theatre im not going to sit right the frick on top of them when a row higher or lower makes no difference

My local theater is small; it doesn't have assigned seats.

Been forever since I went to a theater large enough to worry about it.

That’s your opinion. And might be true where you are at. I’ve certainly been in theaters that the difference in 3 rows is 20 foot. Doesn’t change my statement. Personally I like the row directly behind the main walkway. I don’t want to even see chairs in front of me. And the very front rows drop out.

So no, while it wouldn’t be the end of the world to go behind. Why should I assume someone else is hypersensitive being about people being nearby in a social element just because I sat a couple of seats away from them? Should I always go without my ideal just because some vague person who can’t manage their own feelings can be enabled?

And with your second paragraph I don’t know even how to respond because we went from “nothing irks me more” to “it really doesn’t bother me.” Even if you don’t actually move, and if you wouldn’t do it yourself, it really doesn’t change anything.

Even in non-literal, turn of phrase, colloquial language that’s a jump. But that kind of reactional knee jerk responses is typical in the thin skinned. Just reacting to the last thing as opposed to actually having a consistent viewpoint/perspective.

Anyway, have a good one. No sense going back and forth about something like this, especially with someone who isn’t self aware.

"assigned seats"?? when did that become a thing?

Last movie I saw in a public theater was Black Hawk Down so it's been a while

I wish I lived near somewhere with cool shite like that, I’d eat it up. Went to NYC last week and noticed they have a TCM only theatre which is awesome

Its actually quite fun to go into a place like this, with beers on tap and pizza...watching something like Dawn of the Dead (1978), Across 110th Street (1972), Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), The Last House on the Left (1972) or a double feature with Bloodsport (1988) & Predator (1987)

Eta

Recently got to watch Return of the Jedi at that last one

Independent theaters kick arse

You’re an a-hole. Turn off your phone, and GTFO of the left lane. I buy my tickets days in advance to not sit next to or behind frickheads like you.
