No issue with black protagonists, but female badasses I have a bit of a hard time with. It’s just not realistic, I know that sounds bad but it’s true. Lucy, atomic blonde, every Angelina Jolie movie. I just can’t buy into it

You can't be serious. Is your father sill living in the 60's?

Some movies are made for a particular audience. Tyler Perry movies are made specifically for black people. Steel Magnolias is made specifically for women. I grew up on Eddie Murphy movies. Those were made for all audiences, not just blacks. I love Aliens. There's themes of motherhood all throughout that movie but they don't shove a girl power message down your throat.

I can. But my father refuses to watch movies like wonder woman and black panther because he can't relate to the character.

Wonder Woman was a fantastic movie that did everything right. She was a strong lead, but the men surrounding her were also strong and capable; not goofy oafs that she succeeded with despite their efforts.

I doubt I'll see Black Panther in theaters but I also doubt I'll go see Thor either. But that's just me personally being a bit tired of superhero movies. I knew I was growing tired of them when an all-around good movie like Spider-Man: Homecoming was starting to become boring due to formula.

So can he not relate to movies like Toy Story or Lion King since he isn't a toy or animated lion?

Not at all. If it's a good story, it's usually a good movie unless poorly acted.

What about a British guy as well. He didn't grow up in Britain, so how can he identify with him?

exactly, I don't get this line of thinking. It just illustrates a lack of abstract thought and empathy if you can't enjoy/connect with a film because it's primary character isn't like you. What a sad, tunnel-vision worldview.

No, I don't feel that way, but I'm not racist nor sexist.

Same. I hope they don't frick up Red Sparrow by making Jlaw some SALT like character, because she's definitely not.

It's just a movie. Why wouldn't I want to watch how others interact?

I don't have to relate to enjoy a movie.. of any kind.

So he hates black people, women, and children.

In all seriousness, just because a lead actress is the same gender doesn't mean she's more relatable. I could relate to plenty of white, male leads in movies and TV.

I've never felt the need to identify 100% with the protagonist of any movie.

I don't watch comedies with a female lead. They just aren't funny.

You didn't mean it this way, but I find her to be perfect, period.
