Do you feel like you can't watch movies with a female/black protagonist?

I can. But my father refuses to watch movies like wonder woman and black panther because he can't relate to the character. He tried to say the same with stranger things because they are kids. He loves IT. Same concept in my opinion. Do demographics affect your opinion on a movie?

I mean, I'm not going to rush out to watch the new Tyler Perry movie, but in general no, it doesn't make a big difference to me.

I'm not a racist or sexist, so no. Someone's ideology can piss me off or when they just do something that just isn't true (like the press saying Lena Dunham redefined beauty), but it has nothing to do with demographics.

I like the Friday series, so it has everything to do with Tyler Perry not being funny.

Same here (about Tyler Perry), but I did see Wonder Woman, Straight out of Compton and All Eyez on Me. SO, not particularly.

I will see Black Panther, though. Not because of his skin color, but because he was bad arse in Civil War.

Depends on the story/setting way more than the sex/race of the protagonist.

The lead’s race/gender doesn’t mater to me.

The thing that makes me not wanna watch is if the company makes a big deal about making the lead female/minority race. Like if you don’t brag about making it a big deal I’ll see it if the movie doesn’t suck arse.

History trumps genre for me. I'm not a country or rap fan, but I'll watch films dealing with the history of the genre.

I see that. Probably played a factor for me too, honestly.

No. But I do raise a curious eye to stunt casting. Look no further than the terrible, atrocious reboot of Ghostbusters with an all-female cast.

Just as I would chuckle (and pass) on Jackie Brown being remade with a white, male (probably have to be gay to remain PC at that point) lead.

Stupid stunt casting remains stupid stunt casting. But, I can enjoy films with female protagonists. Kill Bill (again with the QT ) for example.

I enjoyed the hell out of 9 to 5 as a kid (before I grew up and realized what a traitorous whore Fonda is). Terminator (1 & 2), Alien (1 & 2), Silence of the Lambs - all great films with female protagonists.

As far as race, that just isn't an issue with me.

This is absurd. I'm not a dog or a cat, but I still love this movie:

Diversity for diversity's sake is what pisses me off, more often than not. You could tell that they were playing minority bingo as they were casting Rogue One, and that annoyed me. I don't mind a female lead for a SW film. I loved Rey and Jyn Erso both.

I don't even care if Finn and Poe are gay - separately or with each other - but it needs to be a part of who the characters are, not that you're going to retcon some SJW bullshite in just to be controversial or deliberately appeal to Out magazine subscribers.

Black Panther is a BAMF. So is Wonder Woman. They're awesome because they're awesome, not because of their gender or skin color.

^^^^All of this...

Doesn't bother me at all of what, who or how the lead character is as long as it fits the story correctly and doesn't try to "preach" to me. Stunt casting on the other hand is another issue. It's one reason I don't feel that juiced about the new Star Wars films... It's because it's basically been said that they are pulling a Ghostbusters and if you don't like it, your somehow a terrible person..... That's the shite that gets people mad.

Wonder Woman was the best superhero movie I've seen in years, largely due to finding the perfect lead actress. Film also had a female director... Who fricking cares.. just let their merits shine on their own and don't lecture me on how important they are... History will do that fine.

No, but when Hollywood goes all pc in their remakes and stuff like that its more than annoying.

This was a loaded question to incite some racial banter. Any movie or TV show that is poorly casted regardless of race or gender is unwatchable. Denzel was was every bit as amazing as Gene Hackman in "Crimson Tide" for example...I am not sure a White fellow could have carried that role as he did...

The remakes are where shite is getting out of hand and they are changed characters PC purposes

Does he only watch movies about normal, working-class white males then?

If gender or race are the big prevention to identifying with characters with super powers from made up places then I don't know what to say to that.

this is where i parked my car.

i don't love WW any more because of or in spite of a female director and lead. i love it because of a well made movie with a likable lead and good vision for the movie.

i'm not pumped about BP because of a black lead and director. i'm pumped because Chadwick B and Ryan C are badass at their craft and i have high expectations.

Depends on what she looks like and if we're watching at home of if she's taken me to a theater.
