2. Lumping Conclave with those is weird, and you know it. 3. The general critical consensus is that the twist is the weakest part of Conclave. Critics liked it because it was a fast-paced, classically entertaining chamber drama with great performances, until a final-5-minute twist. I think they would have liked it much more without the twist, given that's what so many have already written.

I don’t think it’s weird at all. It’s an unnecessary twist done for modern sensibilities.

You are right that is took away from the movie of otherwise great performances.

French director who doesn't like musicals or speak Spanish made a musical. In Spanish. About a trans drug lord dealer.

What's not to get?

But there will still be blockbusters, still be art house films and tons of good TV series to fill all of your streaming and theater needs. You don’t have to watch any or all of them.

Good thing you’re here to tell us, we wouldn’t have known any of this without you

The "woke morons" was just a direct response to the poster talking about the Academy members (I am one of them). More in jest really. I would hope a film gets nominations on merit and quality, so if this movie is as terrible as some claim then that's unfortunate (i still need to see it).

I totally get the criticism and understand the sentiments about certain agendas, which certainly exists. But for the most part, the only persuasion Most of us get is getting invited to high end screenings and receptions that often involve the stars and free booze.

I'm genuinely curious how the process works for Award shows from the perspective of an actual voter.

Would love for you to share if you'd like. Understand if you don't want to.

whats with all the branding avatars in this thread?

WAWA? In N Out?

TN is getting their first WAWA..literally 4 miles from me. Pretty excited as I drive by it every day taking my kid to school. We'll see what Temu-Buccees has to offer.

As one of these “woke morons” per another poster , I think this kind of backlash will hurt its chances when final voting comes around. To me it’s - The Brutalist or Conclave as the winner (I find Conclave highly overrated)

Looks like it's time for you to cast your vote for the only award show that really matters. The Roscoes.

i've had that avatar for a decade. 3nout lined up well with In N Out and it was an easy avi to make in mspaint.

For the Academy, it's rather straightforward. The screening season ramps up in L.A. early fall, when members get invited to some pretty cool screenings -- some are in large theaters or even a house up in the hills that has a home theater that may only hold 50 people. Most of the time they are moderated or attended by an actor or director. And usually involve a post screening Q+A/reception with the filmmakers.

If you can't make those, there is an online screening room where every eligible film is available (200+).

The initial nomination voting was last week and you basically can only vote on your branch (I'm in production design) and best picture. You rank the projects from 1-10. That produces the nominees, then there will be a final voting in the next few weeks where all members can vote an all categories. Again, it's a weighted ranking system, so you don't just pick one film for best picture.

Thank you for the post. That's interesting that nominations are based on your branch. Definitely develops a perspective for what/how some things are voting in that we may not understand on the Regular Joe viewer end.
