This musical rocks (pun intended). You can hear Lloyd Webber lay down the musical foundations of what will become Evita, Cats, and Phantom.
It’s a solid telling of Jesus’s life from Judas’s point of view. There no resurrection in it because it’s Judas’s story; he didn’t truly believe Christ to be divine, so he’s not. The show doesn’t paint him, Herod, Pilate, or the high priests as heroes. Judas takes the arc of a tragic figure as he should. All those who oppose Jesus are dishonest, depraved, or cowards.
The show always paints Jesus as a hero and someone to be admired. He always tries to help even when overwhelmed by those who seek to touch him. It’s just Judas, Herod, and the high priests who do not see him as divine. Every other character in the play does. It doesn’t shy away from his torture, the depiction of which shows him as a figure who exemplifies faith and endures patient suffering. In fact, the calls him a “Superstar,” someone who transcends mere human existence.
Hell, The Passion of the Christ depicts the same events and only shows the Resurrection as a footnote.

The three day festival of music and theater performances?
Sucks they're screwing up the historical accuracy of the famously historically accurate play Jesus Christ Superstar. Christians never had a problem with this play until this was announced.
