The closest they ever got to the book was the 2002 made for tv movie. Except she also lived at the end

Not sure how old your kid is. The original movie had quite a bit of nudity. Female full frontal.

Finished
I liked it a lot. Disconnecting from the Originals of course because they don’t line up. It’s a good show. Scenes are interesting.

Re-watched the original. It's still a really good movie. No one does crazy eyes like Sissy Spacek.
A few familiar faces in that one too.
Of course Travolta.
William Katt " The Greatest American Hero"
Piper Laurie is great as the crazy mom.
PJ Soles "Riff Randle from Rock and Roll High School"
Amy Irving who, apparently is in the sequel, which I have not seen.
ETA: And yes there is bush in the shower scene at the beginning of the movie.

HAHA.. I went back and watched the original too. I thought I had seen it but I guess I never saw the entire thing.

Starting the last episode now. I like it but I like Flanagan so I’m biased.

On Ep 5 now and this is more like an R-rated Matilda than Carrie

I don’t know if I can handle an R-rated Trunchbull.

Finished it yesterday. It was entertaining. Not great by any means. I didn’t mind the changes in storyline. Even found them fairly intriguing. I noticed King had a part in creating the show, so I’m assuming he’s on board with some of the new elements.

I finished this yesterday. Overall I thought it was pretty good. A modern spin on the story. I thought the main actresses did a pretty good job.
I have some questions:
Where was Emmaline physically when she got shot? She was dancing in the streets with Carrie but I think she was projecting then. Maybe she wasn't. Or did Carrie get shot and it stopped the connection between the two? When she picked up Carrie at her house, she said she had to drive a long way to get there.
I'm bummed out that Carrie's mom died after showing that she had some powers.
I'm curious to see how Emmeline fits in to the story with the group of women searching for Carrie. I wonder if Emmaline is the daughter of the woman who tried to shoot Carrie at the prom.

The "Carrie" part of the story was well done and a good update to the source material. It's the extra stuff, some of which you mention, that I had a problem with.

This part wasn't entirely clear. Emaline was not physically present at the prom when she took over Carrie's body. Didn't Amanda shoot Carrie in the arm? I couldn't tell, or maybe that was Carrie reacting to Emaline being shot wherever she was at. I don't think she was actually physically present ever until the end when she pulled Carrie from the rubble. If you go back and watch the scene where Carrie kills Chris and Billy, you can tell that she's not in control of her actions, as she is clearly horrified when she realizes what happened. The fact that Flanagan robbed Carrie of her vengeance is my biggest complaint about the series. The entire prom massacre was caused by Emaline with the exception of when Carrie brought down the catwalk trying to get to Chris and Billy. After that it was all Emaline.

The show isn't clear if the women are hunting Carrie or trying to protect her from others. The show makes it very clear that there are lots of other "special" people out there, so I think Mike Flanagan is going to end up tying Carrie in with others in the Stephen King universe, such as Danny Torrance, Abra Stone, and Charlie McGee. You are correct in that Emaline is Amanda's daughter. They didn't explicitly state that, but it's all but spelled out.

SPOILERS
Yeah, I agree with you there. I'm guessing they didn't want Carrie to seem like a vicious murderer since the series was continuing. It wasn't her that did all that, it was Emmaline. Also, she didn't even kill her mom.

SPOILERS:
I agree with you. That's the only reason I can think of that Flanagan would make such a huge change to what is the story's most iconic scene. In the novel and every other version of the story, Carrie loses control and gives in to her rage. She literally "sees red" and loses her shite. I think that most viewers would still sympathize with her and not view her as a murderer after the lengths she was pushed to by her peers. Having someone else take control of Carrie to weaponize her powers just didn't fit the story that they spent the previous seven episodes building. To me, Emaline was the villain, as she manipulated Carrie into killing.

I got that they were there to protect her. Just from the looks between the other 2 girls and the woman who was trying to kill Carrie.

Thats the big question to me. Is the blonde chick that she's with on the good guys or bad guys side? Which side are the ones who were at the prom on? They are obliviously not on the same side as the blonde chick didnt want them to know where they were which is why she wouldn't tell Carrie when she asked. So is Carrie being taken away to safety or being kidnapped into slavery. Guess the next two seasons will tell us.
I didn't love her losing her agency in the prom scene but I am looking forward to someone finally doing the Dark Tower series well and if this is the first step in making that happen then I'm all in.

I think that Emaline is supposed to be one of the “good” guys, but that’s relative since she’s already manipulated Carrie into weaponizing her powers. I’m not sure if they are setting up Adelaide and her group as the potential antagonists or what. I don’t think they want to harm Carrie, but they make seek to use her powers for their own purposes. I’d like to see the Dark Tower series done right too, but I really wish that Flanagan had not ruined the iconic prom massacre scene.

About 5 in episodes and we think it’s very good. Mike Flanagan always nails it.
