I was really enjoying the series until the end. Absolutely hate Flanagan trying to connect Carrie to the rest of the King universe (even though King supported it). I just felt that Emaline and the whole coven crap with Adelaide was completely unnecessary.

Probably my least favorite Flanagan series.

Overall, I thought that the series was very well done until the end. The last episode ruined it. We didn’t need the Emaline or Adelaide characters. The whole point of the story is that Carrie gets pushed too far and her revenge has devastating consequences, both for herself and for those around her.

Also, the scene where she practices her abilities with Emaline coaching her was stupid and looks like something out of an X-men origin story. She’s supposed to not really understand the limits of her powers, so that in the end, when she loses her shite at the prom, it’s complete chaos.

I think they wanted to end the season with Carrie looking as innocent as possible. I'm not a big fan of that. Just my gut feeling but I don't think season 2 will be nearly as popular as they stray from the original story

I agree that this was the underlying reason to make Carrie less culpable. Flanagan wants to expand Carrie’s story and he needs her to not be viewed as a monster, which I don’t think she is. She was pushed to the breaking point and literally lost control. I never thought of her as evil.

I enjoyed it, and have recommended it to friends.

The tragic brilliance of Carrie has always been that she isn't evil. Flanagan explicitly shifted the narrative to make Carrie less culpable, aiming to establish her as a long-term protagonist for future seasons rather than a tragic, one-off monster.

Yes I agree as well. Think they're gonna need her to be seen as a hero in subsequent seasons which would have been trickier if she'd just mass murdered her whole town of her own volition.

Obviously the original is a much more impactful ending but if hes gonna go the Dark Tower route the change makes sense although guess we will have to see how things transpire.

I agree 100%. I just feel we didn’t need the Emaline character at all. We all know that Carrie isn’t a monster. Actually Emaline is, and I don’t want to see anymore of her going forward. She manipulated Carrie into murder. She’s the villain, not Carrie.

Right. I'm confused as to what Emaline's motivation is. Adelaide and the coven seem like the big bads, yet Emaline left them and is hiding Carrie from them.

So are we going to find out that Adelaide and the coven are actually good guys and Emaline is the evil one?

I liked it. I understand most of the changes given where they want to go with things.

Well they are changing the scope of things and tying the King universe together. And by "they" I really mean Stephen King. Emaline was his idea. If they're going to extent the Carrie story, they can't have her full arc end where it originally ended. Her moment of true self-actualization has to be delayed.

I'm sure we'll get them but let's be thankful we went eight episodes without even one of the major characters being gay or trans. That's astonishing in these times.

One day will have Carrie driving Christine With Pennywise riding shotgun wit Cujo in the back seat with the cat from Pet Sematary. And they pick up a hitchhiker named Charlie. And they all end up at a hotel in the middle of nowhere and have to save a family being attacked by a crazy man with an axe.

I know that Stephen King supported Mike Flanagan’s idea of tying Carrie in with the rest of his universe, but I don’t understand why he would be in favor of fricking up such an iconic scene as the bloody prom. They spent seven episodes building a story and then pretty much throw everything out the window in favor of a new ending. It reminds me of how Game of Thrones spent seven seasons creating a fantastic character in Daenerys Targaryen then had her go crazy and become a villain in the final few episodes. Flanagan robbed Carrie of her agency.

I knew to expect some changes. That’s what Flanagan does. He takes the source material and keeps the core but expands on it by introducing new characters and plot lines. More often than not it works, but messing with something as iconic as the bloody prom in Carrie should’ve been off limits. He could’ve still built her into a hero as she comes to grips with the devastation she caused. I think it would’ve made her an even more complex character.

We're obsessed? We aren't the ones over representing gay and trans people in the movies and television. That's who is obsessed.

I agree. I think he should have let her cause the destruction and then have her deal with the realization of what she did. She didn't even kill her mom in this version.

I didn't like how the mom died. Seems like they would have kept her living since she showed signs of power also. I was hoping she and Carrie would reunite and learn how to deal with their powers. I wonder is Carrie will find out what happened to her mom. Will she be mad? Will she want revenge for the death of her mom? I guess there's just a lot of unknown related to the group of women doing the interviews. Are they good or bad? Considering they murdered her mom, they can't be angels.

I am assuming that Adelaide and her group are being set up as the antagonists going forward. I don’t think they want to kill Carrie, since they showed up at the prom to seemingly protect her from Amanda. Maybe they want to recruit her so they can use her power. I saw an idea online that Adelaide’s group may be somehow tied to Rose the Hat and the True Knot cult from Doctor Sleep. No idea if that’s true. I guess we have to wait and see where Flanagan takes the story.

I’m just so pissed about the prom.

It looked to me like as soon as her mom told them she wouldn't be able to resummon her powers the decision was made to kill her. Thats how I interpreted it when watching but maybe they were gonna kill her either way.

I saw a post somewhere saying they should have Chris's spirit bond with the car she was in when she was crushed and become "Christine."
