Is assumed that the Phillip guy, was being gay with the effeminate soy prince. And Longshanks realized this, and that's why he taught him how to fly? And that is why the prince was so upset and tried to stab his dad. Longshanks realized if the Scots found out about the prince's lifestyle, they would sack York in a day.

Well it was obvious in the movie they were pillow biters but it didn't occur to me that he threw him out of the window because he was queer.

You propose a solid theory. If it ever got out that Prince Fancy Pants chugged cock, then it would be a major sign of weakness. Longshanks couldn't allow that and hence, did the right thing for sure.

I always just took for granted he was killed because he was a soft, smarmy shitfrick but maybe not. There was probably more to it. After all he was a noble and even kings couldn't kill nobles willy nilly.

I like your theory.

Historically wasn't it more like the massacre at Sterling bridge?

Yeah. Wallace had set up on one side of the bridge, a 350 ft. long narrow wooden bridge and the ground on his side was basically a bog and that was not too conducive for knights on horses in armor, or even foot soldiers.

The movie "Braveheart", like all movies, plays fast and loose with the real facts for the most part.

And that, kids, is where we got the term 'tea-bagging'.

One likely Piers Gaveston. But both father multiple children, and each had bastards.

The King didn't throw him out of a window, but did pull out Edward's hair and banish Gaveston for a while. Gaveston was later murdered by the Earls.

Look, I'm not saying I would've tossed his arse out the window but in days of yore, any sign of weakness was seized upon and that includes man on man buggary.

I hate what this movie did to Edward I. One of the most enlightened leaders of his day who strongly believed in the rule of law.

He was invited by the Scottish at the time to legally coordinate the development of a king less Scotland and only after they couldn’t agree how to proceed was the violence enacted

Also, Philip was giving him "advice" on how to deal with Wallace, which may have pushed him over the edge. His son was weak and easily influenced, someone using his attachment to rule via proxy was dangerous to the future of his kingdom.

Yeah that's where Phil fricked up. He should have been kissing arse and asking how he could help the king. If he was as smart has he thought he was he'd have known the king would react poorly to him trying to talk strategy. He's a consort not a general.

If you think that's true, watch "Gladiator" with Russell Crowe to see how it steals more than a few scenes and ideas from "Spartacus".

And the heir apparent's most favored friend and advisor had a wife and children.

The movie made for a good story line, BUT the real story was a hoot, but had no place for Mel Gibson's character.

Edward was a king when kings really were kings. Divine right and all that jazz. Here comes some punk speaking up when not addressed and daring to advise him. Someone he didn't even know.

What do you think would happen then?

I think the real victim is Robert the Bruce. 12 year old me thought Robert the Bruce was basically some noble puss who betrayed Wallace. Turns out Robert the Bruce is perhaps the most triumphant figure in Scottish history. Warrior Poet card confirmed.

Ultimately - don’t care. This is still my favorite movie of all time. It’s not possible for me to like a movie as much as 12 year old me liked this movie.
