The only thing unrealistic about the alcoholism in this movie is that Denzel's character wakes up in a hotel room with every type of liquor imaginable on the floor. Everyone knows that alcoholics usually just stick to "their drink."

Came to post this. It was what immediately came to mind. It was an incredible performance.

Beautiful Boy on Prime is an amazing portrayal o both the family side and the addict side of alcoholism/addiction. I know the movie isn't about alcoholism, but I don't consider much difference between being an alcoholic and an addict.

Great movie regardless.

First one that came to mind was When I Man Loves a Woman with Meg Ryan. Show the devastating effects of an alcoholic woman. Co-stars Andy Garcia.

I'd say Flight for portraying how it is to be sloppy drunk, but Leaving Las Vegas for withdrawals. I don't think a lot of these movies really portray withdrawals the way they are. In Flight Denzel can get blackout drunk then pop right up in the morning to go see plane wreckage like nothing happened. And his method of using cocaine as a hangover tool? Seems like the last thing you'd want when your nervous is firing out of control is an upper.

I just stumbled across this movie over the weekend. It was very heavy, but a great movie overall.

"When a Man Loves A Women" is not a date movie. Learned that the hardway.

We were too depressed to do anything afterward.

The bottles were really tiny in that minibar, though! He had to take what he could get. He started with the vodka, at least.

Not drinking comedies, but realistic movies portraying the alcoholic.

I hadn't watched most of the movies listed in the thread.

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof is probably the best one to come to my mind.

It doesn't play up the alcoholism as much as it plays up the reasons behind drinking and a family trying to cope/help.
