Based on looking back at my letterboxd ratings, Sinners and One Battle After Another are my top ones.

Saw it last week, it didn’t really resonate with me. I think it’s a movie that hits way harder if you have kids which I don’t. Not saying it sucks, just didn’t do anything for me. Probably dosent help that I’m not a big Shakespeare guy. Acting and cinematography were great though. Chloe Zao is clearly very talented.

Fair enough.

I might be turning into a big softie because it worked for me. For me the adaptation didn't destroy the original intention and would have worked even without knowing anything about Hamlet

To be fair, 2016-2025 was an all time awful decade for movies.

Eddington
Warfare
Caught Stealing
F1
Bugonia
Phoenician Scheme
Black Bag
Train Dreams
Nouvelle Vague

I’m expecting Marty Surpreme to round out my top 10 but if not I would go 28 Years Later or Weapons.

2019 was very underrated. Deepest year for movies in recent memory. The first four of these being some of my top movies in the past decade for sure.

Parasite
JoJo Rabbit
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
The Peanut Butter Falcon
Toy Story 4
Joker
Avengers Endgame
Tolkien
The Lion King
Ford vs Ferrari
Knives Out
Uncut Gems
1917
The Lighthouse
The Irishman

Others of note that weren't necessarily my bag but I'm sure plenty of others liked...

Ad Astra
Spiderman: Far From Home
Dumbo
Glass
Captain Marvel
Prey
Gemini Man
Midway
John Wick 3
Frozen 2
Star Wars Rise of Skywalker

I have put out a list on this sub board every year between Christmas and new year. I need to see a couple more movies, but I’ll put my list out in a week and a half or so.

I agree. I went to see Once Upon a Time, Parasite, and 1917 in the theater and was blown away. I decided to start going to the theater more and then covid hit.

Caught Stealing was good but the tone was all over the place. One of the deaths in that movie felt completely out of place from the rest of the movie and actually pissed me off.

Definitely a great year and super back end of the year heavy. I keep a log every year of every movie i see in theatre and 2019 is my record at 29. It's worth noting that was the last year i was single and living alone

A few others from that year i enjoyed that you didnt list:

Fighting with my Family
Greta
The Beach Bum
Rocketman
Midsommar
IT 2
Rambo: Last Blood
Dark Waters
Richard Jewell
The King
The Highwaymen

Theatre releases havent been the same since then because of covid. Alot of Oscar worthy movies are in theatre for only a week or 2 and you really have to stay on top of release dates to catch them. Bugonia and Hamnet this year for example.

I know it's divisive on here but I really liked Sinners

I did too. But it's nowhere good as the "best" films I usually like to watch. Like something from the Coen brothers or Tarantino.

But it was good and I've watched it more than once. I think it will age pretty well.

Enjoyed Weapons though I don't quite see the hype.

Had fun at the theater with F1 and Tron Ares but don't much care to see them again.

I feel like there were some solid, enjoyable movies this year (F1, Sinners, etc), but Train Dreams really got to me in a way I can't remember a movie getting to me in a long time.
