Tied with Lonesome Dove for me. 1 and 1A.

Ambrose lifted a ton of BoB from Webster's work. Webster deserves a co-author credit and I'm not kidding. Half the book is Ambrose quoting Webster.

It would have been better if they didn't cast David frickin' Schwimmer to be in the show.
That's my only complaint though...great show.

Absolutely one of the best IMO.
Look at how many of those actors went on to other things. I swear I see a BOB actor in 75% of what I watch.
It was a treat for me to meet Neal McDonough in the TSA line in the Vegas airport. He was a really nice guy and I told him how much I loved BOB.
I honestly can watch it twice a year and still really watch it. It's one of the best ever, no doubt.

My favorite was the story of Ronald Spiers. Im glad he got such good play. I love the story he told about about Torsious: Im sure there are stories of him where he cut the heads off of some Carthagenian prisoners bc they thought he was the baddest leader out there.

Nah... I respect him more for taking that role and owning it.

I watch it every Memorial Weekend.
It is my most favorite thing to watch and I cannot find any weaknesses to the entire series.

I own the box set and have watched it several times and had no idea that Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy were in the series until just now.

Same with James McAvoy.
And Jimmy Fallon.

Lieutenant Nixon thinks this is a can of peaches. That is incorrect. Your weekend pass is cancelled. This. Is United States Army property.

OP - definitely up there as best ever, no doubt for a mini series.
CSB time, I worked with Sobel's son and didn't put it together until after a few years. I finally got my wife to watch BoB and I was saying how bad I hated Sobel and she says "wait, that's Michael's last name. I think I remember him saying something about the war." She worked with him too. To which I was like oh shite how did I not catch that. Kinda glad I didn't though as I hated Sobel so much I don't think the conversation would have gone far.

One of the funniest scenes of the series.
A barbed wire fence.
And I could watch it 2-3 times a year and be thoroughly entertained. I watched it with my son when he was a teenager and we still quote it to each other.

One of the feel good moments of the series--Sobel gets his...
We salute the rank, not the man!

It's up there, but for me its not the best thing on HBO. It's in the top 5 in that category. The Wire is #1 (on HBO, by mankind, created in the universe).

I love the scene set in Foy, when Winters sends Spiers to relieve Lt Dike. Sgt Lippmann(?) narrarates Spiers solo run through German held territory to link up with the other platoon and finishes his monologue by saying, "And then... he came back." That's a great scene!
(Per a letter he sent to Dick Winters, Spiers claims to have no recollection of the events at Foy other than being sent in to relieve Dike.)
Edit:
It was a letter to Ambrose.
“I have no recollection of the Foy incident where I took command, but it sure is flattering.”
Letter to Stephen Ambrose Ronald Speirs
