It is fricking great. So many good scenes, but in the Carenten episode (Ep.3), guy takes a mortar blast and the audion goes wonky as he walks out of the building. Then you see POV of his boys finding him and telling him he'll be ok. The faces tell a different story. Great acting, great cinematography.

Greatest multiple episode thing ever put on film I think.

Unless you count Godfather I and II.

Yep. I don't get emotional during movies or shows but it's hard not to during the interviews after the episodes. Especially the guy talking about the real heroes are still over there

It's the only series/movie I've seen that I would label truly "perfect".

So yes.

"Why we fight" is one of the most powerful episodes of television I have ever seen. So gut wrenching.

An interesti g factoid on Webster (the Harvard grad):

quote:

Stephen Ambrose, a tenured University of Louisiana System professor of history (specifically, at the University of New Orleans) who had studied Webster's writings, was so impressed by the historical value of Webster's unpublished papers that the professor encouraged Webster's widow to submit the writing package to LSU Press. She did so, and a book was published, with Ambrose's foreword, by LSU in 1994. Titled Parachute Infantry: An American Paratrooper's Memoir of D-Day and the Fall of the Third Reich, it presented Webster's first-hand account of life as an Airborne infantryman. His trained eye, honesty and writing skills helped give the book as well as the miniseries a color and tone not available in other G.I. diaries

Stephen Ambrose, who authored the book that the mini-series is based on, is a graduate of LSU (master's degree).

I'll have to look that up.

As for the OP - completely correct. Absolutely the only perfect thing I have ever seen. It is the true GOAT.

Casting - perfect
Incredible production values
Writing is outstanding
Acting is great
Score is incredible
Directing and little details of the scenes are perfect

LOVE BoB....the HBO series "The Pacific" paled in comparison but was still decent. Very gory
