point taken, I suppose.
Me, I don't need or fixate on death in movies, and I agree, there does seem to be a lot of that nowadays. Way more than before.
Maybe it's just the evolution/progression of it; first there's hints (classic Bond movies), then someone one-ups it (Mission Impossible- where Ethan's team is killed off at the beginning). Kinda hard to go back once that line is crossed.
Maybe part of my apathy towards Solo is due to TLJ, and another part is due to the casting of someone who bears no resemblance to Harrison Ford. I just don't feel confident in the current handling of the franchise, and Solo was my favorite character. I've already had to see him die due to his punk son, I don't want his early years ruined too.

Someone posted this on another site yesterday.
If they updated with Sunday numbers it would be even longer.

25 million yesterday

All this, and it hasn't even premiered in China yet. Movie is going to obliterate all the records.
To think, Marvel was bankrupt in the 90s. 2010s and it's the most recognizable brand on the planet.

It won't break TFA domestic, or Avatars WW total. But over 2 billion is highly likely.

I'll need to see the second weekend drop before I make any predictions. No one thought it would break TFA's opening weekend.

Did Avatar kill it overseas? How did such a crap movie make that much money?

I just can't see it breaking TFA record. Let's say it does another 100 mil during the week, and $150 over the weekend (highly doubtful). That puts it at 500 mil. It would still need another 430+ million to break the record. Just don't see it with the rest of the summer movies coming out.
I don't think TFA would've put up those numbers had it been released during the summer.

This. I think $800 is the ceiling. But if they get another $180 this weekend, it might break 800.

I can see $800 Million. $2.1 billion worldwide

Solid total...it's showing strong legs. I wonder if it can do as much as 140+ this weekend.
Posted on 5/2/18 at 12:26 pm to RLDSC FAN
That would be a 46% drop. TFA, BP, Jurassic World, and Avengers all did 50% or better even with huge openings. I think 140 is a good target.

Avengers: Infinity War earned around $16.8 million on Wednesday, down 26% from Tuesday (The Avengers fell "only" 23% on its first Wednesday) and bringing its six-day total for an obscene $322.7 million domestic. At a glance, this means we're probably looking at a $338m one-week total and, depending on the second weekend, a 10-day cume between $443m and $463m. It earned $32m overseas (a bit of a drop, but Russia opens tomorrow) for a $534.7m overseas total and a new $857.3m worldwide cume. So, it'll cross $900m sometime late tonight.
Barring a fluke, Avengers: Infinity War will cross $1 billion worldwide tomorrow or (at the latest) on Saturday, boosted by its opening day in Russia and a Friday worldwide gross that will likely be a lot higher than its Thursday gross. It will become the first movie to do so in only ten or eleven days of global release. Yes, the film opened on Friday (or Thursday night) in North America, but it started its global release on Wednesday in a number of overseas territories. So, unless it takes a real dive today and tomorrow, it'll be over the once-fabled milestone one or two days faster than Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which needed 12 days. That's a little ironic, since Avengers: Infinity War started trailing J.J. Abrams' Star Wars sequel domestically by the fourth of day of domestic release.
quote:
By the end of its fourth day, Infinity War had earned "only" $282 million in North America, behind the $288m four-day gross of Star Wars VII. And with the school year fully in session, Avengers 3 will (barring a miracle) never catch up to The Force Awakens in North America even if it manages a second-weekend gross comparable to Force Awakens' $149m second-weekend haul. Putting aside that Force Awakens was the first Star Wars movie in ten years and the first pure sequel to Return of the Jedi in 32 years, there may never be another set of variables (a record-breaking opening, followed by two weeks of vacation) that allows another film (be it Avatar 2 or Star Wars IX) to do what Force Awakens pulled off.

To be fair, a bunch of theaters do $5.00 Tuesdays where people see movies more on Tuesdays than Wednesdays.
Posted on 5/4/18 at 9:21 am to OMLandshark
$15.7 yesterday. Fantastic Thurs number. I'm going with a $140 weekend number, which would be a drop of only 45%.
