$258 Million Opening Weekend

Incredible start, should hit 1 billion WW this next weekend. I was thinking a domestic total somewhere between 650-700, but it looks like it'll go way over that. WOM is very strong. I'll be interested to see if it can get to $800 mil.

I'd be slightly concerned about the legs, but the movie almost implicitly requires a second viewing for the big fans.
$2.0 billion seems to be in striking distance, but it would depend on the dropoff next weekend.

quote:I think 900 is a real possibility. There's just nothing to match it as a popcorn flick for while even as summer starts. It's an interesting trend we are seeing where the biggest movies aren't waiting for the summer season like they used to. I wonder if they've figured out that college kids in particular will go see the move with their friends from school then again with their friends from home. Or similarly, that high school kids will see it on the weekend during school and again once they have the extra free time. Maybe that's not significant and I'm totally wrong, but I think it helps the staying power.

Without China or Russia. That’s insane

Both deadpool and Solo are trending for huge opening weekends, Marvel was very smart moving it up a week. There's nothing until deadpool in a few weeks. It's going to clean up until then.

I think it gets to $700 million or. That's two huge properties to take away from it. I don't think it hits $800.

If a movie is good, people will see it, regardless what time of the year it comes out.
What's the difference between Friday and Saturday night in April, than in June? Adults aren't off for the summer, and kids can't go to the movies without an adult bringing them.

It's going to be a fun one to follow, that's for sure.

I stand by my number from the box office prediction thread.

I wonder if with the delayed release it'll hurt China numbers, gotta figure it'll have been boot legged like crazy by the time it opens there
Posted on 4/30/18 at 10:53 am to BilJ
Was there a reason for the China delay?
Posted on 4/30/18 at 10:54 am to BilJ
Last I heard, it was trending for a $160 opening weekend. Many BO people feel it could do $350-$400 in China.

China tends to release movies before or after America does.

marvel was pretty immovable about Americans seeing the movie first this time.

Chinese holiday/festivals going on, they are only premiering local movies

So for those that have seen it, do you recommend 3D or just standard viewing?
Posted on 4/30/18 at 11:52 am to Dale Murphy
Watched it in standard IMAX. Was great. Don't think 3D would add anything to it.
