Best part of the movie. Was expecting woke/girl power/climate change, and got just this.......Where were those other Island F*ckers for the entire battle? 11 yr old son asked that.

Movie was bad, but killed 4 hrs on the day before Christmas Eve.

I thought this movie sucked. Gorgeous and fascinating visuals but the story sucked. Editing sucked. Humans and marines are soulless and evil. Ya da ya da ya da. Yeah where the hell were the natives with the most water fighting skills at the end? Why the hell did these people, who swam like fish the entire movie, just not swim under the darn small rim of fire to get away at the end?? No let’s go back into the sinking ship and swim all through the different compartments so that James Cameron can have his Titanic meets The Abyss jerkoff moment.

Looks like 19 million Friday. Babylon meanwhile, yikes!!

Paramount’s $80M opus, BABYLON, took it on the chin Friday, earning just $1.4M (including Thursday previews) with the studio estimating a weekend debut of just $3.3M.

I wonder if BABYLON is any good. I had never heard of it but the blurb sounds good

Weird how compartmentalized advertising has gotten. Or perhaps how fragmented viewer attention has become. I guess I haven't been watching any of the channels they advertised on

Was a really fun and awesome 3D experience. Def recommend it. Wasnt even that big of a fan of the first one, though i never saw that one in theatre. The story was pretty decent. Kinda Dances with Wolves-ish but not completely over the top. Under water graphics were amazing and def worth the dollars for 3D.

Your prediction didn’t age well, did it. 2 weeks in theaters and it’s a little short of earning $1 billion.

Again you have no understanding of cost, sales forecasts, and missing forecasts. You are a damn moron.

pot meet kettle if you actually believe Hollywood accounting. I'm sure you believe the Lord of the Rings trilogy never turned a profit too

quote:

The suit, filed yesterday in Los Angeles by the Tolkien Trust, a UK charity which manages the writer's estate, and HarperCollins, the novels' original publisher, alleges that New Line failed to pay "even one penny" from profits generated by the three films, which have amassed close to $6bn (£3bn) since 2001.

In the complaint, the plaintiffs accuse the studio of "unabashed and insatiable greed" and of engaging in the "infamous practice of creative 'Hollywood accounting'."

It's getting pretty middling reviews. From what I've read it has a lot of really good aspects and will probably draw a decent amount of awards nominations but overall many view the movie as a mess where Damien Chazelle tried to do too much and wasn't able to pull it together into a cohesive whole. Probably worth a watch once it comes to streaming and it might even get a cult following of people who like it despite it's faults.

The film flopped it's first weekend as far as expectations go. The global economy is struggling and this is another signal. This isn't rocket science bud.

Thats because instead of using actual logic, he was just wish casting. Anyone who didn't expect this movie to make at least 1.5 billion was an idiot.

This is the type of movie that people will go to see in the big screen rather than waiting for it to release on home streaming

… Spider was the worst character ever imagined

Amazing visuals obviously but holy shite that movie was too long.

So they finally surpassed their 1 week sales forecasts is 2 weeks? Again, you don't understand numbers. Or maybe you are just a little special. We need ditch diggers too.

Guess you came back to double down on the stupid?

What did you say initially? This will kill big budget movies at the box office

That global markets were down cause Avatar

now you are out here saying this nonsense?

Forecasts are a moving target moron, and the forecast moved down slightly in the face of new info in week 1(China Covid panic and theaters staying closed the big one), but actually ended up slightly higher than revised forecasts and the film is on pace to be the biggest blockbuster this year. It blew past its initial most optimistic forecast for weekend 1 some time ago(don’t know what you are even talking about ) and will likely pass a billion either today or tomorrow, likely be a rocks throw from Top Gun after the New Year and then we will see whether it can hold on and make a post New Year run.

When all is said and done Avatar 2 will be at worst, the 2nd highest grossing film since Covid

"This is James Cameron's first $100 million opener," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for Comscore "For this movie to have opened that big and only dropped 58%, it shows it has staying power."

It’s ok to be ignorant. We can help educate you.

Nah, it was a perfectly solid film with unmatched visuals. The very definition of an event film.

And better than 98% of the crap that breaks 1 billion at the box office these days.

It's doing much better internationally than I thought it would (Not counting china). I'm almost 100% certain it surpasses Spider-Man.

Is been 10 days, not 2 weeks.

They hoped for half a billion in the first 3 days, they didn't forecast it. They hit that number on the fifth day. They'll likely double that number on day 12.

Not the out-the-gates success they would hope for to guarantee that instant profit, but that's also not how any of Cameron's mega-hits have played. They want it to play for months. It dropping less than 60% in week 2 in America is awesome. It dropping 42% internationally (which includes the massive hit in China with the new wave of covid shutdowns) is incredible. No one knows how it will play the next several weeks, but this weekend was a positive indicator, not negative.
