You can’t follow this conversation.
From an evolutionary sense, variation is due to random mutations. Sometimes these variations help or hurt your chances of surviving. If they help your chances you’re more likely to survive reproduce and pass on your traits. You may even be selected for these traits by potential mates.
Sometimes these variations don’t do anything. They just happen and don’t provide you with and benefit but also don’t hurt your chances of survival, so it doesn’t matter.
Dark skin in humans helps provide us with UV protection and this is beneficial in places with lots of sun. People with lighter skin are better at producing vitamin D from sunlight which is beneficial if your not as worried about UV rays.
That explains most of human genetics.
But assuming elves evolve the Same way assume their DNA is suspectable to UV rays or they need vitamin D. They live forever, so it’s safe to assume genetically they have other things going for them to prevent the breakdown of DNA. So maybe the naturally occurring variation doesn’t do much for them and they just have some black elves and some white elves.
Now these genes would still be passed on by your parents.
Also kitten color isn’t random. It’s still determined by two parent cars genes. They just all have their own genomes. You fricking doofus.
Again they aren’t human so projecting our evolutionary history onto them is dumb.

So this black elf comes from a group of elves that originate in a different, and more desert like climate?

All disagreements aside. This is the best post of the thread.

Assuming elves need protection from UV rays and don’t have some other mechanism beside pigment.

Hey, douchebag, care to address my and Scruffy’s point on being outraged if they whitewashed Avatar due to cultural points, or are you just too big of a pussy to address an argument that absolutely wrecks your idiocy? Or will you just imply I’m a racist again?

So how and why did this elf’s ancestors migrate to white elf land?

Where you? Share a post.
There were definitely people outraged.
I would like some proof they’re the same people.

Thanks for reminding everyone you have zero understanding of Tolkien's works.

1. If skin color doesn’t provide elves with an Evolutionary benefit than there is no reason to assume that it would have a geographical distribution. If you don’t need darker or lighter skin for any reason the variation could produce anywhere. Consider hair color. You see a large amount of variation throughout Europe mostly because it doesn’t provide any real benefits or harm.
2. The elves historically are constantly moving around middle earth. So idk why this would be a huge stretch.
3. This is all speculation. It could be something the explain in a completely different way in the show.

Hester, Scruffy and I have a clincher of an argument and he can’t get around it. I want this from Sammy: both fantasy series are based in root in the horrors of the World Wars (Second Sino Japanese War was a specific front of WWII for Avatar) and use themes from the war, just on different fronts. So Sammy, debunk our argument on how we’d be wrong in changing that setting with people of other races would ruin the message? The setting and people within that setting are important for those series and it ruins everything if you just try to wokify it and appease everyone.

This is not an argument. Either explain how it works or GTFO.

They were brought to white elf land against their will on the Elfistad. You know, the Middle Earth Passage.

Here’s Scruffy’s post:

Avatar the Last Airbender had only Asian characters.
It was one of the most successful cartoons of all time.
The live action show will have zero white people.
Fans of the show would be absolutely furious if they cast white people, which is one of the reasons everyone hated the M Night movie.
They are knocking the casting out of the park and it is expected to be a huge franchise.
The point is, it can be a completely unimportant thing, when it is allowed to simply be an unimportant thing.
And here’s mine:
quote:
Exactly. Fans of that show have been fairly ecstatic about the casting even if they're apprehensive of the upcoming live action show. I was pissed back in the day when they whitewashed Avatar because it undermined the source material which was a fantasy rooted in the Second Sino Japanese War. You change them to white, then that changes everything and the major context of the series. Instead it switched it to Europeans vs Middle Easterners, which makes no sense.

That's good casting right there and makes sense within the context of it's universe. This live action Lord of the Rings does not.
Debunk them, since they are the death of your argument. Lord of the Rings will be the most expensive show ever made and Avatar will be the second and they’ll be released like 4 months apart, so it’s a perfect comparison.

Well this elf would probably be, from a continent other than middle earth.

But it wont be. They won’t explain it. And if they do they will completely make up something solely to justify having a fricking black elf.

Huge Tolkien fan since single digits.
Huge artistic license us being taken here.
This is the "Hamiltonization" of Valinor, Numenor and Middle Earth. It is shitting on the source material in the name of wokeism.
Tolkien's work was a mythology created for Britain/Anglo-Saxon peoples steeped in Christian symbolism. Period.

1. LOTR isn’t set in turn of the century Europe. It’s just not the setting. Clearly WWI was an influence of Tolkien, but he didn’t write a realistic fiction novel.
2. Horror of war happen to people at war of all colors. These themes are actually universal and the fact that a show influenced by a WWII era war in Asia and WWi in Europe have the same theme shows that in fact war doesn’t care what race you are. It’s horrible.

By a man with conservative and libertarian principles.
It’s exactly the reason the progressives have leeched onto it. To subvert all the things mentioned they hate and replace them “acceptable values”

Nuh uh, not true. Black elves don't need sunscreen, that's why.
