It’s videos like this that are the reasons the dislikes are gone in the first place

Thank Eru there were no representatives of the white patriarchy on there. Eru knows that they hate, and have always hated, Tolkien for his inclusive and diverse characters.

All 100% scripted and fake. None of those 'fans' knows 1 damn thing about Tolkien. None of the UK ones have any LOTR or Tolkien vids in any of their feeds before this stuff came out. They're all frauds.

Correct. 0% chance that they read ANY of the books that were not assigned in school (and even then, Spark Notes/Movies), and there is no way they watched the original trilogy much less the extended versions.

I have said it before but it feels like a video game trailer full of cutscenes. LOTR+AC Valhalla (where you can choose your gender, etc) = This bullshite* (*Images in trailer may not represent actual gameplay)

Say what you will about Stephen Colbert, but he’s clearly a super fan even if he’s woke as all frick. The silver lining to this series is him. He said that the Seuss Estate did the right thing by cancelling several Dr Seuss novels, where even Jimmy Kimmel ripped into him over that saying Trump will win in 2024 for sure if they keep up with this shite. But now it’s coming for his Precious, and I’m going to laugh.

He will chose wokeness and use his his LOTR knowledge to justify all the corruption of the source.

Watch.

They do know that Galadriel is not a spring chicken in the Second Age, right? Well of course they don’t. She was already thousands of years old at this point. The only elf older than her in Middle Earth from memory is Círdan the Shipwright.

Tolkien had a great quote on this which is such a “frick you” to this series from the onset:

quote:

Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made.

I don’t know. This show will piss him off. Colbert very carefully understands Tolkien and reads Lord of the Rings at least once a year. I think this may be the catalyst that finally makes Colbert look into a mirror for once.

Love the optimism, but I think this is wishful thinking here. This is right up there with hoping those Canadian police were gonna' drop out of rank while in full tactical gear last weekend and stand with the truckers despite having passed on every opportunity to do so before then.

Plus, it assumes he has any integrity at all. This should have put an end to that belief.

Colbert is going to Late Night 'splain why black elves make total sense...watch.

I read these threads and they always divulge into “woke us going to ruin this”

So far the main complaints have been about a dwarf’s beard and black people being in the universe. Seems pretty superficial.

I’ve never read the Salmarillion but I always Heard it wasn’t a straight narrative novel and almost like a Middle Earth Bible or History book.

I am willing to lend some creative license in exchange for a cohesive storyline.

I get That these four are annoying in the video, but it’s absolutely the internet living up to its reputation for all the neckbeards to have this reaction.

Then ignore the complaints and enjoy the show.

As I've said from the get go with all of this, if you're wired to enjoy the fact that these studios are now openly telling you that their diversity, equity and inclusion policies trump everything else when it comes to creative, then I'm sure nothing they do will bother you in terms of the retention of canon or lore for any story they adapt. Sincerely, enjoy what it is they're serving up.

If you're not down with that, and you actually care about the canon and the lore being retained, then you have choices. You can either go into it hoping it won't be as bad as they're telling you it will be and be pissed once again when one of your childhood memories is ruined, or you can point at it and laugh and move on. For this group, they need to come to grips with the fact that just because a company has the rights to an IP that you like and they are producing content, you're not beholden to consume it. This assumption that you will, even though you're against what they're doing, is how and why it keeps being done.

Brother, if you think he’s gonna choose LOTR over his religion you’ve got him pegged all wrong

I’m not saying he’s going to openly denounce it, I just think he’s going to bite his tongue and ignore it. If Colbert says almost nothing about this show, then he loathes it entirely.

I’m just not wired to shite my pants because they cast a black person. If the story is good, and the acting is good, then I’ll be happy. The fact that there is a black dwarf isn’t that important to me, and honestly it never felt that important to any of the Tolkein books I’ve read.

Back when I still had time to read books or enjoy life in general, I was a voracious consumer of fantasy novels.

So yeah I’ve read the LOTR trilogy.

You’re not special your just butthurt.

You either care about the cannon or you don't. Likewise, if you're down for The Message than you may be willing to sacrifice cannon to get more of that. You seem to be up for both, so this seems tailor made for you.

For others, that both care about cannon AND are not down with having literally EVERYTHING "reimagined" and constantly being told their "expectation need to be subverted" this is a totally unwelcome move.

Or, you can just lazily call anyone who does not want this racist and call it a day.
