Why is that? Does anyone else feel this way? His shows are so over the top it’s unbelievable. Even for a TV show. My theory is, we continue to watch the Sheridan shows because, warts and all, it’s still better than a lot of what’s out there right now. A massive indictment against movies/series. Where do we go from here?

I dunno, but I don't think I've seen a more typecast IMDB page outside of John Wayne.

Just an observation, really.

Yellowstone is pretty boring but I've enjoyed his other stuff.

I agree almost all are over the top but I enjoy most.

1923 is the only one I take very seriously and actually “enjoy” enjoy.

I never got past 3 episodes of Yellowstone. It was just too much.

I feel they all should be 1 or 2 seasons and then end. As with most tv, they get success then just go on way to long and end up sucking.

Agreed on 90% of shows.

Big Little Lies was absolutely perfect as a miniseries and IMO they actually ruined the first season by making the second one.

This year we watched “Nobody wants this” and I thought it ended perfectly but knew it was so good they’d make a second season unnecessarily.

Most often they think there’s more meat on the bone to be had (and money) when they should be content with having told a great self contained story.

As far as soap operas go, Yellowstone is quality art.

Yellowstone was laughably bad, I couldn't even finish the first season. I honestly think I'd rather watch Days of Our Lives than Yellowstone. The fact that it got this weird cult like following made me dislike it even more.

Mayor of Kingstown is pretty good but it also completely over the top. Had to take a break after season 1 and haven't picked it back up. Reading the description of Landman and hearing Billy Bob talk about it it seems like it's pretty much the same show/premise as Mayor of Kingstown except it's the oil field instead of prison.

I think the one I might actually like is Lioness but his other stuff is so ridiculous I have a hard time even starting it.

I had no idea who that is so I looked him up. Never seen any of his shows but I see he's written, directed and produced some movies that I really like. Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Finestkind. Hell or High Water is great one of the best movies of the 2010s.

Maybe I'll have to check out some of his shows it's just hard for me to commit to watching tv shows.

1883 wasn't bad or really over the top

1923 part based in the US isn't either - some of the stuff with Spencer is

There is a bunch of good newly released tv out there right now:

Day of the Jackal (Peacock)
No Good Deeds (Netflix)
Shrinking (Apple TV, season 2 just wrapping up)
Escape from Dannemora (brought over to Netflix from Showtime)
The Agency (Showtime)
Black Dove (Netflix)

Now, I agree with you on movies. 2024 was a dogshit year for movies.

I think Yellowstone was pretty awful, it was just a boring soap opera. I haven’t seen any others.

Making soap operas for middle America is good work if you can find it. Haven’t struck gold in that category like this since Dallas and he’s bleeding it for all it’s worth

Yellowstone started fine, but got pretty bad, especially this last season.

1883 was awesome. 1923 was good.

Lioness is really good in my opinion.

I’m really enjoying landman

Sheridan might not be perfect, but he's Alfred Hitchcock-level awesome compared to Shondra Rimes.

Of the Yellowstone series (Yellowstone, 1883 and 1923), 1923 is my favorite.

Nope. After Sheridan suicided John Dutton, I was done.

Thankfully I never started Lioness or Landman. All his shows will likely drift along and end end on the same listless fashion. Its his way

And now that Yellowstone is gone, I have no reason to watch 1883, 1923, 1944 or the Rip rip-off. It seems pretty futile. Whats the point?

Well, 1883 and 1923 are just good shows... so there's that. Same with Landman... a bit over the top, but entertaining nonetheless. Will it eventually end in the same listless fashion? Possibly. But.. if you see it headed that direction, go ahead and check out. At least you've been entertained for a couple seasons.
