I really didn't like the prequels. However Revenge of the Sith is a Top 3 Star Wars movie for me. While the movie was inconsistent, sloppy at times, and somewhat not believable, Anakin's fall to the dark side, his burning, and full transformation into Darth Vader was incredible.

Here's the immolation and medical capsule scene that, in my opinion, are the best Star Wars scenes of the franchise. I think Lucas did it perfectly, besides the obvious "Noooooo"

Just him going to the Jedi Temple and seeing the young padawan interact with him before he kills them was gut wrenching.

Why did Anakin even try when Obi Wan clearly had the high ground?

Obi Wan should have been a Sith Lord.

I'm not the biggest fan of the prequels, but the actual story being told through them isn't a bad one. It's actually quite good.

The acting and casting choices could have been better sure, but at least the story was good and it didn't do anything to ruin star wars like rian johnson and Disney did.

Mentioned then dropped and never discussed again - Lucas at least realized he screwed up and didn’t look down on his audience.

Remember the time of release for TPM - DBZ was in full swing all over the world. The sci-fi genre was obsessed with “power level” so I think Lucas was trying to tap into that and also needed a device to let the audience know Anakin was tGOAT as far as raw force power was concerned.

I personally believe the prequels have the two best lightsaber duels of all time.

Duel of the fates
Obi vs. Anakin (minus the high ground)

You could replace Obi vs. Anakin with Vader vs. Luke

But EP. 7 and 8 leave much to be desired outside of the throne room.

It was clear from the beginning he was going to end up about two feet short.

Obi wan knew anakin was arrogant and would try it anyway. He knew it’s where he would beat him.

Depends on what you mean by “story.”

If you’re talking about Anakin’s turn to the dark side and reinvention of himself as Darth Vader, I’d agree.

The issue is that the entire background of the PT is a muddled, confusing, uninteresting mess. No one really cares about the political subtext or dynamics of the Old Republic, and the whole Separatists and Trade Federation thing was extremely hard to follow to the point where it didn’t make sense.

The whole thing that made the OT so great is that it was pretty simplistic. Good vs. evil, bad guys are bad, good guys are good, rebels rebelling against an oppressive regime. There wasn’t a big story about why the rebels were rebelling and what their political gripes with the Empire were.

Really the only thing that wasn’t confusing as hell in the PT was Anakin’s path and the fact that Palpatine was bad. That’s it.

I agree. RotS is my #3 movie. Yes, I fully agree there are some absolute cringe worthy dialogue sequences. There is definitely room for improvement in them ove, but it does not deserve to be lumped in with AotC, and to a lesser degree TPM (though I still enjoy this movie for the most part).

Lucas is one of the all time best when it comes to big picture, he just struggled with all the details.

Honestly the biggest problem I had with TLJ is that it is apparent that there is no unifying creative vision for this story. It was obvious that RJ didnt care for some of the story threads and characters that JJ created, so he just swept them aside.

It wasn't perfect by any means but I actually like the story of Palpatine's political maneuvering to essentially have the "good guys" raise and join the army that he would eventually use to destroy them and take over the republic.

I had almost made peace with the film, then he hits me with this. I laughed out loud. Never considered Star Wars (other than the despecialized, "original" original films) ever, ever again.

ROTS is complete trash. That's it's not *as* bad as TPM and AOTC doesn't mean it's good.

As many problems as TLJ has, it's a much more competently made film than any of the prequels.
