As far as I can tell, no one has any idea as to what authority (if any) he had as a "producer."
He co-wrote it and was described as a "passion project of his".
I think he was more than just a ceremonial producer. He had his hands in everything.

Baldwin is not a co-writer of this movie.

Rust is an upcoming American Western film written and directed by Joel Souza. The film stars Alec Baldwin (who also produces, and co-wrote the story with Souza), Travis Fimmel, Brady Noon, Frances Fisher, and Jensen Ackles.
He also created the story. Not surprised that you and Hank takes his side.

The production was obviously cutting corners which lead to unqualified people being in control of weapons and an overly lax attitude on set causing a tragic death.
They should probably go after the Producers then. Oh wait...

Is it really on the cast of a movie to somehow inspect props? I would have just casually assumed if I were handed a gun on a movie set it would obviously not be "live".
Also, let’s not forget that Baldwin was not only the actor, he was also both the producer.
He was part of every aspect of this production that could have prevented this.
And he was the shooter.
Treat him like every other American who has been charged after accidentally shooting someone.
Baldwin isn’t special.

If someone hands you a gun, you check it to see if it’s loaded or not, especially if you’re going to point it at another person. That’s basic common sense.

Baldwin is an a-hole, but I don't think he's primarily at fault here.

He could’ve checked the gun. Blanks look different than live rounds. It would’ve taken 5 seconds. Wtf were live rounds doing on set anyway? To me, that should be at the top of the list of questions to ask & whoever brought them should also be responsible.

You've never shot a gun or had a gun safety class have you?

As I understand it, movie protocols are very strict, and not the same as other places. Actors don't function-check a prop-gun handed to them, unless they are told explicitly by the armorer. They are to do EXACTLY what they are told to do, nothing else.
It's set up this way because actors may not have any experience whatsoever, and are to be assumed to be total idiots when it comes to - anything other than acting. The ARMORER is responsible, and is supposed to treat everyone else as though they are kindergartners.
The way it's supposed to go, if you are handed a prop gun and do anything other than your explicit instructions, you might get one warning before you get thrown off the set.
The problem is that nobody was doing what they were supposed to do. That ammo shouldn't have been anywhere near the set. The gun should never have been handed over before the armorer cleared it personally. Obviously Baldwin should not have been allowed to point it anywhere near cast or crew, and everyone should be treating it as a loaded gun throughout. If the armorer is scared to tell Baldwin to put it down NOW and get out, they needed a different armorer not afraid to do the job. And until there's someone qualified who controls that situation, the filming, etc, the whole production should be paused or shut down.

They get that defense. They are simply too stupid to understand, therefore they get to claim the ignorance defense.
No one else gets to claim ignorance.
If I were to accidentally shoot and kill someone, can I claim ignorance since all I know is medicine?
Can a factory worker claim ignorance since all he knows is his job?
Yea, I would like to see that play out in the courtroom.
Wealthy actors get to claim it though and people actually support that stance.
Wow.
We can all agree that actors are retards, but the rest of us retards apparently have to play by a different set of rules.

Mickey Rourke looks crazy, but he's right. Some actors don't know shite.

I love seeing y’all giving these individuals special privileges because they play characters on the silver screen.
