The 80s had a lot of good movies but many of the stars that were their best years. The list below were expected to be stars in the making but seem to die shortly for them.
Molly Ringwald
Judd Nelson
Emilio Estevez
Matthew Broderick
Jennifer Grey
Anthony Michael Hall
Corey Feldman
Corey Haim
Judge Reinfold
Ally Sheedy
Ralph Macchio
Val Kilmer
Rob Lowe and Charlie Sheen were a part of that list until they made it back to TV, but many had forgotten about them.

I don't know what it is about him but I went from liking him to hating him basically overnight. I think maybe because I always thought he should do light comedy or something light hearted then he put on his whole serious face in Inception and Dark Knight Rises and it just made him look silly. It was too much too soon and throwing him into serious roles alongside the likes of Bale, Goldman, DiCaprio, and Tom Hardy made him look like a squirt

She’s got a really odd filmography. Very very busy but most things I’ve never heard of. Small roles and/or small movies, but a ton of stuff. At least she’s working/trying hard.
I’d say she hasn’t really peaked or faded.
She seems to be aging well, maybe she can make a run. ETA: err, maybe not.

Seth Rogen. Had a decent stretch of comedies from 2005-2008 or so. Then kept making shittier and shittier movies.
ETA: I guess he didn’t really fade away. He just started to suck really bad.
He moved back behind the camera. He’s a executive producer for The Boys, wrote and directed The Preacher, and has done a ton of voice work in the last 2-3 years.

He made quite the comeback with Penny Dreadful.
He was fantastic in it and I’m sad he didn’t pick up anything else after it’s run.

Mira Sorvino immediately comes to mind. Poor thing is so lost in her plastic surgery, she was practically unrecognizable in her recurring role on Modern Family as Hayley's boss at Nerp. (Obvious swipe at Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop).
Mena Suvari, too. American Pie, American Beauty, then practically nothing. Wasn't she one of those starlets who married some camera dude in his 50's, or something similar to what Avril Lavigne did?

Derrick Luke. Seemed like he was in a lot of great movies for a stretch then disappeared.
It's one of my dad's all time favorite acting moments, he still talks about it to this day.

I’ll submit Jane Lynch, easy to see why, she really plays the one role well and that’s it.
She had those few years with Glee, Role Models, a few other things, she was all over your tv. She’s still working but mostly smaller roles and the shine has worn off.
Jane Lynch has to be one of the busiest people in Hollywood. Her IMDb site shows 12 TV shows she is in that have aired or are set to air in 2021 alone.

I randomly watched Cruel Intentions the other night.
So I'm going to say Ryan Phillippe

That one makes sense. Total bitch and always bit the hand that fed her. She absolutely deserved it. Heigl even by Hollywood standards is just awful on a working level.
I used to wonder if it was exaggerated... but the constant stream of complaints and even Grey's Anatomy was like, "hell no you can't come back."

I know she turned to drugs to cope with childhood sexual trauma, which just ravaged her body. Aged her prematurely.
