Ryan Kwanten. Figured after True Blood he would have been put in the romcom or chick flick rotation but he’s just kind of disappeared.

It surprised me that Bonnie Somerville who played Mona in half a dozen episodes of Friends didn't use that story arc as Ross's GF as a launching pad to bigger things, too.

She had a show not long after being on Friends with Elon Gold, Dennis Farina, and I think Jean Smart IIRC. I want to say it lasted one or two seasons. The Newlyweds maybe.

ETA In-Laws, it lasted one season.

Purposely bailed as he was becoming huge.

Dude turned down the role of Superman and Batman supposedly.

He didn't want to be a huge star.

Britt Robertson

I liked her in Under the Dome and Tomorrowland. But, then she disappeared.

I thought she would be HUGE - on the level of stardom Julia Roberts inexplicably achieved (Speaking of which, Pretty Woman was turned down by Molly Ringwald, whose mishandling of her career is a case study in destroying your stardom)
Wow, what a terrible take in so many ways.

Before some of you were born, but back in the late 80’s/early 90’s I thought Michale Pare’ was going to be huge. He did Eddie and the Cruisers and a few others, then fell off.

I always go with Casper Van Dien. I thought he would blow up.

I remember watching a movie with an ex one time and Dolph Lundgren was in it and she turned to me and said"wow, that dude is going to be a huge star soon!" I and told her this movie is 15 years old. She had no clue.

Sam Worthington

Its crazy he's in two of the highest grossing films of all time (The Avatar films), and not really much of REAL note else.

Avatar was HUGE and we basically never saw him again until the Avatar sequel

Reese Witherspoon - I expected her to become America's Sweetheart. Cute-hot for guys, but not intimidating to women. Her career will always seem disappointing to me.

You expected her on the A+ list, not just the A list. Last year she was the 3rd highest paid actress in Hollywood.

She is supposedly a giant bitch in person though.

Patrick Wilson.

I really liked him in Hard Candy, The Alamo, The Phantom of the Opera, Little Children, The Watchmen, and The A-Team. It's sad he never became big. Though he has been pretty good in The Conjuring and Insidious franchises.

I think he's had a wonderful career playing what he wants. he's still pretty active and played a great pervy grandfather on White Lotus.

Define what you mean by "star". If you mean a glamorous archetype that can open a movie in all-weather conditions, there really have been few stars since the late 80's or early 90's. Pitt, DiCaprio, Roberts, Ryan are a few, but nothing like the what we had before. Guys like Ben Foster are great actors first and will never be stars.
