I know... and I love CS Lewis. But even for people who don't 'get' the storyline, the wth'ness of having a female voice a male lion is over the top.

As an aside, Narnia should be considered a dead property. Kids give zero shits about that series.
Based on what?
My three couldn’t disagree more with this.

To add some established news, this is adapting The Magician's Nephew instead of the traditional first book.
That’s awesome news!
ETA if they don’t frick it up of course.

But... that's what The Chronicles of Narnia.. are. They are an allegory. Well, according to Lewis himself, they are "Supposals"... but the point remains. Their entire reason for being is to explore Christ and Christian themes.
Take that away and Gerwig is just producing... a fantasy story about kids and a Lion. She's missing the entire meaning behind them.

The religious overtones are too obvious to do anything that would downplay that.
That's exactly why they want it and want to corrupt it.

Is it going to be “Meryl Streep voice” coming out of a male lion or are they going to alter it post-production to be a male version of “Meryl Streep voice”, which begs the question, why pick her?
I would assume it's going to be a female lion. Would be kind of pointless hiring her as a male lion just to change her voice. Could be wrong though.
She's already failed at being a Cat once.

This will definitely result in Corinthians420, that TEMU version of SFP, creating 500 posts about how it doesn’t matter.

That is cool, too bad it sounds like they are screwing it up. Can I just get a stand alone Horse and His Boy?

My kids love it. But they are some of those strange homeschoolers who have been exposed to broad ranges of literature.

And in that case this will go the way of Snow White where half the country will just outright reject it from the start. Hollywood has to be filled with some of the dumbest people alive.

Either it's a female lion or a male with a weak, effeminate voice. Either way, mission accomplished by these heathens.

Besides... didn't they already do a non religious Naria... The Golden Compass, which was basically anti-Narnia... that bombed?

I often wonder about the decisions they make with stuff like this.
I am sure with most of them it is a conscious choice to be subversive or something.
But I do think with some of them they are truly oblivious as to why anyone would care and can't fathom that there is any difference one way or the other.
Odd people

What if Aslan was one of us? Just a slob like one of us? Just a stranger on the bus trying to make His way home?

They have a desperate need to make their mark on something. They don't realize is just making an amazing product and/or faithful adaptation is far more impressive and usually more memorable. It is just more difficult, so we get stuff like this.

Gerwig has claimed she has "deep reverence" for the source material but there have been rumors and leaks that all of the religious stuff, philosophy, Lewis's worldview are essentially going to be excised
So… it has the name and may have talking animals, four kids, and a white witch.
Yeah, this is going to suck.

I’m a Gerwig fan and was excited for her take on the Narnia series as she’s a very talented director. But if she makes the Christ figure in the books into a female version, this property is doa. The audience who would be most interested in it will totally reject it. Why the hell would she do that? Hopefully this rumor isn’t true.
