re: Would Tiger Woods have beaten Nicklaus in majors if he had continued with Butch Harmon?

A. Would Butch have messed with his swing?
B. If not, would Tigers body have held up?
His mental health including addiction issues can’t be dismissed. He was raised as a golfing machine. Lost his mind when he was showered with money and poon.
His story would be fascinating I believe. But we will NEVER hear half of it until long after he is dead.

Woods came in when players looked like Joe Blow out on the course for the weekend. He brought in athleticism, which put him ahead of the field. As other young golfers followed suit, his dominance decreased.

23%. That’s Tiger’s career win percentage, which includes all the years he tried to play thru injuries. He’s the most dominant player ever.
This.
I was a high school state champion, college player and member of the PGA.
Tiger is more talented and I dont think its close.
Put them both in their prime with the same set of clubs on the same length course and Tiger waxes Jack's fat arse.
Sorry to the boomers that have a hard time with reality.

Tiger would be (and has an argument) the best golfer of all time, if it weren’t for his mental issues, that he blames on his back.

Tiger after that thanksgiving incident was a lot like mike Tyson after prison. Before that, they both had a psychological advantage over opponents. But after they lost that they became very beatable.

Arguing Jack over Tiger is like arguing Bill Russell over Jordan.
Sorry Tiger didn’t get to play against milk men and chain smoking insurance agents to get ringz

Some of the responses here make it seem like the man had a disappointing career.
15 majors. He’ll always be a legend and GOAT for many.
One of the craziest stats in sports though, is how often Jack finished 2nd in majors. He dominated more than Tiger but we can debate the level of competition etc.

Jack also played with super shitty equipment and golfballs. Still pulverized the ball off the tee over 300 yards

I’m pretty sure it’s disputed

I think in one of the early Masters Tournaments, he was driver, wedge … on a par 5.

If he would have stayed off HGH and Waffle House waitresses probably so

Jack Nicklaus laughs at you

It's disappointing when you compare the first half to the second half. Tiger started with an unmatched blaze then imploded and limped across the finish line.

A more interesting question would be...Who would be better if Jack and Tiger played in the same era with the same field and equipment!

Really. Nicklaus 18 major wins, Tiger 15. 2nd place finishes in majors, Nicklaus 19, Tiger 6. I would say that’s a pretty damn good argument.
You are spot on. Same reason Bill Russell and Sam Jones are better than Michael Jordan, right?

Tiger inspired this entire generation of fans and golfers to love the game. You can clearly see the impact any tournament he plays. It’s night and day. He’s the GOAT

Except Nicklaus had to contend with Arnie in his prime, much like Russell had to beat prime Wilt

He won more and was a better iron player under Haney
He won 8 majors and 37 total tournaments with Harmon from ‘97-‘03. He won 6 majors and 32 tournaments with Haney from ‘04-‘10.

I know y’all old folks think it’s close but it’s really not. Tiger Woods changed the game, while having 82 PGA wins (9 more than Jack). Not to mention part of his prime was taken away.
