Babycakes, and it's not even close. Why in the frick did they have to change it from the perfectly serviceable "Zephyrs"?

The Zephyrs was a Denver name, it was a train that ran to Denver from Chicago for decades. Didn't make sense when the team moved to NO.

For some reason I don't like teams that have moved and the mascot doesn't make any sense to where they relocated.

Like the L.A. Lakers. It made sense when they were in Minnesota. Utah Jazz.. Jazz made sense when it was in New Orleans.. But out of all states, it is in Utah.

If we get into minor league names, there are some good ones.

Wisconsin is getting a minor league team that will be named the Udder Tuggers. There is the Amarillo Sod Poodles.

My issue is with teams that don't go by the primary city of the metro area they play in.

Like do we really need an Arizona Cardinals or a Colorado Avalanche? Phoenix and Denver are major cities - act like it. If OKC can represent an NBA team, and Green Bay an NFL team, so can you.

The one exception I give for this is Minnesota because of how MSP is such a true twin cities dynamic.

If Charlotte didn’t change their name back to the Hornets, they Bobcats would have the worst team name and logo.

The Hornet nickname is also a great historical reference that I'm glad returned to it's rightful team.

The Zephyr was also the name of the big ride at NOLA’s Pontchartrain Beach amusement park

A park that has been closed for 35 years. Zephyrs was still a horrible name for a franchise in New Orleans. The fans making it sound like it's some deep cut local reference doesn't validate it.

Babycakes isn't a good name by any stretch of the imagination, but it's an improvement on Zephyrs.

Why? There are probably over 10 pro teams named after birds. What makes pelicans worse than any other bird?

That's a great name it's a classic.

Worst is the Utah Jazz and all those MLS names that have United, Sporting, Club, City and so on with the names copied from Europe.

I love going to Atlanta United games (as a non-soccer fan), but I'd have to agree with this.

And God-forbid you ever call them "United" or say stuff like "I'm going to the United game today". What a bunch of insecure fagts

Zephyr used to be a rollercoaster at Pontchartrain Beach so it actually kind of did work for our area.

Washington Generals... horrible team to go along with their name and yes,I understand they were nothing but a foil for the Globetrotters ( great nickname BTW)

Las Vegas Golden Knights, and Washington Wizards

Some of the best IMO are the old school names
Pains me to say it but Yankees and Mets (metropolitans) are great and Unique.

Celtics, Knicks, Rangers, Red Wings, Red Sox, Blackhawks , Spurs are all great

I don’t really disagree but on the other hand having a cartoon mascot as a team name is a bit strange and uniquely American for the most part.

Jazzland/Six Flags NOLA modeled their wooden coaster after the Pontchartrain Park Zephyr and called it the Mega-Zeph

that park only closed after Katrina in 2005

it had relevance

ETA: the Mega-Zeph was Jazzland/Six Flags NOLA's top ride attraction
