I mean, that was my point. Most things in life are not fair. That is just a fact of life that we have to get over.

I agree completely. I guess I just don't think fair is really the right word there. Fairness isn't really an issue in this case.

This does have to do with genetics. The NBA, filled with men players who are extremely more athletic makes the NBA very fun and exciting to watch. There is a huge demand for the game because of this.
The WNBA filled with female athletes who are shorter, slower, and overall less athletic generally makes for a much more boring game. Hence the demand is very low.
Genetics is what drives the supply and demand for the game. There is nothing the WNBA could ever do from a business standpoint to make the game as popular as the NBA game. That is of no fault to the players at all. It is just genetics. As I said before, it is not fair. But most things in life are not fair. That's just the way it is.

which is very true. i wonder when these players will just start going to europe where they get paid better
I've seen articles where most do. Apparently a lot of the euro leagues run at the same time the NBA does, so WNBA players play WNBA in the summer and in Europe in fall/winter.

Women NBA players upset about the WMBA/NBA pay gap is legitimately hilarious

It bothers me when people don’t understand basic economics

It is a bit strange that the league doesn't make more money. They are on 3 major tv networks and have huge sponsors, including the NBA. The attendance part is bad, but most revenue doesn't come from that. They need some better business people to take over..
Do you think those sponsors are paying massive amounts for little return on investment? They aren't going to overpay to get no one to see their ads. Do you think the networks are going to pay significant sums to broadcast games no one watches? Plus, attendance does suck and that's including the fact they can't charge anywhere close to what the NBA can for tickets. They can't raise ticket prices. Otherwise, even fewer people would show up.
Finally, much of the overhead/expenses don't get diminished just because it's women's basketball. The teams still have to pay overhead to play in these large arenas (unless you think the ushers, ticket takers, maintenance, security, etc. should be paid less simply because it's a WNBA game). It cost the same to run the lights in the arena for a WNBA game as it does for a NBA game. Electricity doesn't "discriminate" by gender. You still have to fly the teams all over the country to play and put them in hotels. Airlines and hotels aren't charging less simply because their customers are primarily women. You still have to have training staffs and doctors to take care of the players. But you have to pay those expenses out of a MUCH smaller revenue base...thus inhibiting profit.
I'm sure the WNBA is doing all they can to maximize profit. That's the point of being a business. But when there is no demand for your product there is only so much you can do. Inflating the salaries to well above market-value isn't the best way to maximize profit.

If I was a female athlete. I would be frustrated as well knowing I could not make hardly any money playing the sport of basketball. Meanwhile male athletes are millionaires.
But if she is legit crying about this in hopes to have people feel sorry for her, because she thinks she deserve to get paid Lebron money, then she is just plain and simply retarded.
Hell, I am sure ugly girls would probably like to be able to be a model, or get good acting gigs. The ugly girls are probably just as talented, but the prettiest girls will always be the models and get the best acting jobs. Meanwhile ugly girls will be relegated to being extras their entire life, unless they can get a job where being ugly is part of their character.

I always bring up the NBA and WNBA when I hear the wage gap arguments. I love it when Libs eat their own.

lol lets not forget the fact these broads go to Europe in the off season and make millions playing in the euro leagues.

Do they really? I would be pretty surprised if they made that much. The highest paid euro men’s players only make like 2-3m IIRC

I mean, that's just another level of stupid being exhibited right there.

I’m sure they will all be willing to take a pay cut to close the discrepancy in the wages
Someone need to contact Pop and Kerr and Lebron and Steph and the whole woke crew... I'm 100% positive they would be more than happy to cut their own salaries and send it to the WNBA to ensure that more equitable "fair" salaries are paid in that league.
"But that's different!"

some of them make pretty good money overseas
and its all in cash of its in Russia
quote:
Despite all this, the WNBA's claims of financial distress have helped produce a very favorable agreement for the league. WNBA players are paid a lower share of revenue than their NBA counterparts, and the WNBA owners get to pocket the difference. But is this actually helpful to the league's future? Going back to Taurasi: like many WNBA stars, during the offseason she plays overseas, for UMMC Ekaterinburg in Russia. There, Taurasi's annual salary is $1.5 million, and earlier this year she announced that UMMC was paying her an additional six-figure sum to sit out the current WNBA season.
