But you don't need 10 years of helmet football from 8 years old to 18. That's just stupid throwing your kid out there when he should be playing with sticks in the yard and tossing the ball around.
There it is. The guy who wants to tell everyone how to parent, but still hasn’t said his age or if he even has kids.

He would have to do a 180 in his interests. He’s all baseball and was soccer. I will not steer him to football. His size and him going to Katy High School means he will serve as a tackling dummy. If he says “Dad! I want to be a punter!” I’d be all for it.
I will eventually push gold on him. Lol
He is 8

Yes
Probably not till middle school 8th grade
I would Probably make sure they are educated on concussion symptoms and educate myself.

34 years old. Have a 6th grader. Yes he plays tackle football, he also plays baseball, basketball, and golf. There was never a question he would play tackle football if he wanted to, and he absolutely loves it.
I also have a 4 year old boy, and it'll be the same for him. If he wants to play, great. If not, that's ok too. But he'll play baseball. That's non-negotiable (I'm only semi serious).

Im in my early 30s, dont have kids, and dont really plan to, but if for some reason I do have a son, the only activity that he cannot do is play soccer. Anything else would be up to him.
I would try to push him towards rugby and baseball, my two favorite sports, but I played football in high school, so if he wanted to play that, then Id be ok with it.

I don't see anything wrong with kids starting at around 7th grade?
Also I don't have kids yet but when I do if my son wants to play football then he will play. Probably start with flag depending on how old he is when he wants to start but once he gets to 7th or 8th grade I'm completely fine with him starting tackle football.
I'm 22 btw.

I'm in my early 30s and I've got boys and I'm not sure
I'm less worried about head trauma and more about just the pounding your body takes. We're not a large people. I'm 5'9" and was playing against much larger guys. My wife is 5'2" so our kids arent going to be much bigger than I was.
I played fullback and linebacker and my knees, back, shoulders and ankles hurt all the time. And I only played form 7th-12th grade, no Pop Warner.
I had a few concussions but I expect there wont be any long term damage. I just don't know if I want them to have to deal with the physical toll later in life.
I'll likely try to dissuade them from playing, but once they're old enough if they're begging me to do it, then I may allow it.

My kid is 8 and built like a DE, but I probably wouldn't. I don't think it'll be much of an issue, anyway.

I only have girls, so better or worse, I won't have to make that decision. However, if I did, I would let the play beginning at 10 or 11 years old (as long as they were playing against other 10 - 11 year olds.
I began playing tackle football at 10. Played all the way through HS. At no point do I recall anyone in the league suffering a severe neck injury. Is it a risk? Absolutely. But no so significant of one that I would prohibit my son from playing.
Truth be told, I suffered worse injuries playing other sports: Caught an elbow to the face playing basketball which very briefly knocked me unconscious and made me bit through my tongue. In baseball I was hit in the head with a pitch and had to sit out a game or two.
I have a female friend who flat refuses to allow her son to play football because of the injury risk factor. So he plays soccer. Thus far in his early soccer career he's suffered a broken leg and at least one concussion.

Is kids playing football the same as pregnant women smoking? What a random statement.
