I am interested to see what the overall answer is and if certain age groups tend to lean towards a certain answer. Not judging anyone because I don't think anyone knows for sure the effects it has on kids.

i'm torn.
he's 7, hasn't played yet.
he says he wants to, not sure if he completely understands the physical nature of sport.
fall baseball has always taken the priority so far.

I'm 30 and don't plan to have any kids, but I wouldn't let my fictitious son play football.

There's no point anyone playing organized contact tackle helmet football before H.S. (or under 13).
Even 30 years ago parents wouldn't let most kids...due to fears of paralyzing their kid (now it's concussions.)
Too many other sports to be supremely active and in great shape like Tennis. (Which like piano lessons, you can play forever...just like golf, great sport to learn young.) Country-club sports are great skills that last a lifetime.
How often do people play football after H.S.?
And then they can of course play baseball and basketball.
Once a kid is in H.S. - he's gonna play what he wants to play.
So the question, is really aimed at - "would you let your kid play Pop Warner football?"
Most parents have never really been down with that long before the current concussion issue.

Grew up in the south. Knew a ton of kids that never played football, and even more that quit well before high school.

The world needs band geeks, too.

Sorry meant to say most played from 3rd to 8th grade. A lot of kids I grew up with quit prior to high school too.

I knew people like this. They never made it past 2 a days. Way behind on basic technique and understanding. Also hadn't ever got their bell rung or the snot knocked out of 'em, at least by starting younger you ease your way into it.
I'm 33 yes I'll let mine play if they want.

Yes. The experience that Football provides and the lessons learned from it for life far outweigh the risk. Football has NEVER been safer then it is right now

I’m 51. Both of my kids played football. Oldest played one year youth, when he was 8, then picked it back up in jr. high and played through college. Youngest followed almost the exact same pattern, except he decided that he didn’t want to play anymore during his junior year of high school. I have no regrets whatsoever.

I'm 30, I don't have kids yet. When I do, they aren't playing football.

you going to let them ride a bicycle? play soccer? play baseball? i mean, its ok to love your child and protect them but don't be a hypocrite about it.

Yes.
He's 2. He's hit his head harder and more often in the last 24 months than anythijg that can happen on a football field.

My kid plays flag football. If he likes it and sticks with it maybe he’ll play tackle but I doubt it.

I don't agree. You play on the playground and get a few bruises and broken bones in youth. You don't need to play organized helmet collision football when you're 10 years old.
I played in H.S., as did most kids, got my bell rung...and had enough collisions to get properly acclimated in freshman ball. Everyone I knew on the team never played Pop Warner...the team survived two a days.
I didn't need 4 years of Pop Warner to ease into it.
H.S. is enough and back then it was "I can't wait until I get to H.S. to play organized football."
You're mature enough to listen to direction and not do stupid kid things on the field when you're in H.S. If you're good enough and love it, play on in college.
But you don't need 10 years of helmet football from 8 years old to 18. That's just stupid throwing your kid out there when he should be playing with sticks in the yard and tossing the ball around.
