while their defensive players do so well? It seems like most of their highly drafted offensive players are massive busts or disappointments but defensively, they produce studs every year. Why is that?

They also have a lot of guys doing really well. Put in a lot and many are going to be busts.

Bush, Sanchez, Palmer, Steve Smith, Cody, Kalil, Cassel, Bueler, Justice, Lutui, etc? Yeah a number pan out less than expected. Just as many from other high powered schools don't pan out as wel- including yours truly. I think many fell for the USC hype during their run and really expected most, if not all, to light it up in the NFL. It just does not work that way. And as BilJ said...

Of course if they all panned out, then there would be a thread about why PC did not win 5 NC's with the NFL talent he had.

Some of those have been massive disappointments in correlation to their draft positions...

when you put tons of dudes in the league, you're gonna have a few failures.

two of the better ones --Troy Pallumalo (who's name I just butchered) and Carson Palmer -- weren't recruited by Carroll

It seems to be more the offensive skill positions.

It's because the Pac-1 sucks donkey balls on defense, so offensive skill players look better than they really are.

Cal has a bunch of big time offensive skill players kicking arse in the NFL. That theory doesn't explain why SC defensive players are outperforming offensive players. If anything, it would do the opposite

yet the SEC still can't seem to manage to play .500 ball agaist the PAC-1 in the past decade, when the SEC has been its strongest. Go figure.

I say it's because of a lack of motivation when they realize they took a pay cut to move to the NFL.

ugggg conference wars again...

very few players succeed in the nfl. usc sends (or did under slippery pete) a bunch of high profile players to the league. so when they fail, they get slack for it. every big school has a ton of failures in the league

Yeah the PAC-10 has been flexing its muscles with all of those national titles it has been winning during that time period too.
