the agreement between the Gator Collective and Jaden Rashada was cancelled on December 7th, two weeks prior to Early Signing Day. Why did Rashada choose to sign any way?

Honest question: at this point, what was the downside in NOT letting Rashada out of his LOI?

Daddy ball in college would make me question the character of the coach.

He's going to be more trouble than he's worth for whoever signs him.

CU's quarterbacks suck balls and no coach would start them over Shaduer.

i think its going to be nearly impossible for an 18-19 year old to get out on his own for the first time with this much money and actually want to work to be a successful football player. It'll be interesting to see how these star recruits turn out in 5-6 years.

I don’t think Rashada has to worry about that.

I wonder if one day, colleges will have teams full of "students" that "go to class" and consider "tuition" a form of payment... wild stuff.

I thought that was liberals who got all dramatic about how scholarships weren’t enough for these kids. Seemed to be a lot of Big Ten fans among them

This would be like you selling your 2015 F-150 and someone offering you $500,000.

Sure, accept the deal I guess. But it’s your fault if you let that idiocy frick your plans to actually sell the truck to someone realistic.

What are the other top QBs getting paid to sign with their schools?

What is stopping this kid from being like, “shite, ok UF I’ll take 7 million dollars.”

I’m so confused by this situation. Are other schools tripping over themselves to pay him close to 13?

I think that your example about someone overpaying for the truck is a good example.

I think everyone involved is dumb and making glaring errors in this, from Rashada’s advisors to the UF boosters. But one of their calls was leaked a few weeks ago and there was a thread about this on one of the boards. Those guys sounded like complete morons and amateurs.

And obviously I’m speculating here, but I think Rashada thought he was getting millions of dollars and ended up with a check for low six figures or maybe even less (with promises for additional payments).

He probably thought “why the hell am I going to Florida? Before this offer, I was going to attend Miami and now this offer isn’t what I agreed to” and decommitted.

However everyone else assumed he was going to go to Florida and planned accordingly. Now he has lost a ton of leverage and has limited college choices.

This reminds me of a much dumber version of those prospects who would turn down MLB Draft signing bonuses, sit a whole year, and then sign for less money the next year.

Why would I want to watch Amateur athletes play for a school they committed to based on who gave them the most money?

Can just watch the NFL/NBA

The collective(I hate this term so much) only coming up with a couple hundred grand after offering millions seems hard to believe. It’s just to cringey to think about these idiots messing up this much.

And this goes without saying but man, as an athlete you can’t put yourself in a position where you absolutely refuse to be at a school. What was Miami offering him?

What was everyone else offering him?

Did Alabama pay Holstein millions?

I don’t understand NIL. 13 million has to be more than what Alabama’s entire roster made for the 2022 season.

If you heard those guys (I wish I had the audio on their conversation), you would believe it.

They sounded dumber than most of Finebaum’s viral callers.

Also I think that people hear 13 million dollars and think of it as a one time payment.

It is over 4 years and if paid monthly, it would be a bit more than 250K a month. If they are withholding the way a proper company would, that would be like 150K or so for the intial payment.

Of course this is assuming a) the offer was legit, b) the media is reporting it correctly, and c) it wasn’t ultra-incentive based and stacked for years 3 and 4 with those incentives.

I guarantee you this was a contract that made the No Limit Ricky Williams deal look reasonable, if the high end was 13+ million dollars.

I honestly wouldn’t be remotely surprised if the guys giving the deal had a lot of paper wealth at one point in the summer, they stupidly assumed it would continue in a straight line and as NFTs, crypto, and meme stocks fell, they suddenly had a lot less money.
