Probably Crews or Langford with Skenes going 2 to the Nats and whoever isn't picked between Crews or Langford going 3 to Detroit.

Rumors that Langford may go 1 because his signing # is lower than Crews'.

I have a weird gut feeling that it’s going to be Langford at #1

Not because they're cheap, just a different strategy. Instead of burning most of their bonus pool money on one guy at the top of the draft, it sounds like they want to save some bonus pool money to try and go overslot on high upside prospects later in the draft. The MLB draft works very, very, very differently than any other draft. I don't know all of the intricacies of over/underslot, but every team gets X amount of bonus pool money and can't spend more.

It sounds like the Pirates want as many throws at the dartboard as possible with high upside guys later in the draft who might be harder to buy out their college commitments. I'm guessing teams don't draft these guys early because they don't want to burn a high draft pick on a player who they aren't sure will forego their college commitment to sign with them.

A team who was closer to big time contention would probably take the college pitcher (Skenes) because they aren't worried about organizational depth as much. Pittsburgh is not in this situation.

It sucks when players I like end up being picked up by rival teams.

i thought drafting the best player is more valuable that more darts on fricktards that you'll never hear of again.

Langford may very well turn out to be the best player in this draft. We can't say at this point but he's up there at the top with Crews and skenes.

I wish someone would find a tape of their owner using the N word.

Does anyone have the scoop on how/why this system came to be?

I get the impression MLB is wanting the draft to be more of an event, based on the TV coverage it gets now, and constantly having to explain to casual fans that the best players don't actually get drafted first seems counter to that.

I just don't get why all the deal cutting is necessary. Seems like it would be easy enough to pick the best player and pay the slot value.

no, the pirates are cheap fricks

same peeps who used to spend luxury tax money on bonuses for office people, not invest into club. MLB had to make a rule, because of how fricked up they were.

Ohh, I’m not discounting Langford. I was highly impressed with him in the CWS. That’s a grown arse man.

I understand that the athletes have choices and that’s the main reason the best players aren’t always taken in order(or as close to it as possible).

But what was the idea behind slot money and the way they do things now?
