Exactly. Fournete takes a lot of heat but he was hurt all season long & when he reinjured his ankle late, Coach O & staff made him sit out.

CMC did it first. But I think when white players do it it’s called a financial investment

It's weird that people have a problem with this. For one thing, the salaries are MUCH higher now than back in the day. In 1988, the top NFL salary was less than 2 million. NFL salaries have far outpaced inflation. You are simply risking much more.

Andre Smith sat out the bowl game against Utah after we lost the '08 SECCG vs Tebow and the Gators.

Fournette said he wanted to play but O and the staff talked him out of it. His ankle was never right that whole season. I think CMc might have opted out just before him
This.

But he did it because of the bad publicity of allegedly killing 5 hookers
If he would have had a good bowl game though, that accusation would have gone away.

The first I remebmber seeing do it was Shawn Andrews at Arkansas skip the 2003 Liberty Bowl before declaring for the Draft.
CMC and Fournette were ove a decade later.

I seem to remember some claim of a sinus infection, but everyone knew why he wasn’t playing

Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette were the first as far as I can remember.

2003 Arkansas had a first round lineman named Shawn Andrews that did it. I was a kid and I was pissed.
McFadden and Felix Jones didn't play in the 07 Cotton as well.

And that same year, (well the MNC the previous year) Willis McGahee was injured late in the Fiesta Bowl vs Ohio State, and that started a lot of conversations in the 2003 Bowl Season IIRC. Lol but it certainly wasn’t a popular decision at that time, for anybody.

I feel like the Jaylon Smith injury was kind of like the Mike Vick preseason injury where everyone changed what they did after that.

Shane Falco, 1995 Sugar Bowl for Ohio State

I don’t get how people don’t remember his ankle was messed up after the last game, he only risked injuring it more and was projected to be a top ten pick. Mccaffery was fully healthy and doesn’t get the same treatment
