Arkansas.
We've got to make the right hire after this year. We've had 3 bad hires in a row. Hoping with NIL in order we can make some strides these next few years

Have any of you ever been to Blacksburg? Not exactly an area big time recruits will want to flock to. Also they don't have the huge donors that other bigger programs have. The facilities are nice but nothing outstanding. They have pretty much reached their potential already and couldn't sustain it. VT will get good recruits here and there but will never be able to load up on them to be considered a sleeping giant.

Texas. Or maybe they are just the biggest underachiever.
Given their location, money, in state talent etc, it is really something that they really should be what Bama has been.

Arkansas pulling Texas talent isn't that far-fetched.

Wake me up when they start pulling high end talent from Texas or Florida or Georgia or California which is pretty much what you have to do to become a consistent winner
They already pull consistently from Texas and have reaches into Florida like every school East of the Rockies.

frick them. They turned they're back on Southern high schoolers and became infested with Asians who have no school pride, no social skills, don't attend any games and refuse to donate a penny back. They will never return to relevance again and will rot with whatever is left of the ACC.
Well if you're checking those boxes as your criteria, you can count UCLA off your list of sleeping giants.
Being great at football doesn't actually need great fandom, that's fan hubris. See Miami....fans didn't show up on their journey to greatness and barely showed up once they were great.

Mississippi has so much talent and yet Ole Miss and State are never elite. Was always surprised

I’ve always thought if Mississippi had one P5 school like Louisiana it would be an absolute powerhouse like LSU. They split up enough of the talent along with LSU/Bama/Auburn etc poaching it

College football has changed a lot since Miami’s heyday. Back then coaching staffs weren’t making mega dollars and there wasn’t a perpetual facilities arms race to fund. Committing to the local in-state programs was also more of a thing - which probably had more to do with the country being less connected pre-Internet/smartphone/social media and NFL money not being as absurd than the “loyalty” aspect that some fans today long for while hypocritically cheering when their program signs a 5 star from three time zones away.
Miami won big at a time when landing the right coach (and not having to give him a nine figure contract) and being in a prime recruiting location was enough. It’s not enough nowadays, and Miami can’t spend money like the top SEC programs, Ohio State, etc.
There are about 15 programs (give or take) with the resources, the location, and the commitment to win big over a period of time. What primarily separates these programs is the availability of a top notch coach. Those 15 programs can’t all have a Nick Saban if there’s only one Nick Saban. And landing that coach has more to do with timing than anything else.

I'll add Oklahoma State. They have a big presence in DFW and North Texas. They also get to rid themselves of Texas and OU now in the new Big 12. Plus Boone Pickens money.

Nebraska without a doubt. They now have an excellent QB, a solid coach, a great defense, and talent at all the skill positions. Their weaknesses are their OL and DBs, though they just brought in John Butler from the Bills to coach the secondary which is a home run hire. They have connections now to recruiting in Texas, Philadelphia/NJ, KC, Hawaii, & Miami. Looking at their roster they have kids from all over the country and even a giant lineman from Germany. They very well could be 7-0 headed into Columbus.

They are pretty close to states that do have them but the problem is Arkansas high school football is so poorly coached, underdeveloped and many communities don't care enough about football to be any good.

Don't hold your breath, Arkansas had opptunities to hire better candidates but ended up with a clueless Sam Pittman.

That could said about Arkansas in the old SWC. The only school not from the state of Texas with no access to any talent in the state of Arkansas. Having to compete against all the Texas schools that had much greater recruiting advantages. Arkansas had more losing seasons than the rest of the SWC members before 1959.
That changed with the hiring of Frank Broyles.

I am not saying we will ever get back to where we were...but our donors are fine. Our NIL is not top 10 in the country, but we have plenty of money to compete. We did not lose anyone this year to another school due to NIL. We do not have famous alums that have flash, but plenty of business money behind our NIL.
The reason why VT is where it is now is that Frank hung on a few years too long and let people negative recruit. And then Fuente came in an alienated most of the high schools in the state. We went years without sniffing top 10 recruits. Pry is doing a great job building getting 3 out of the top 10 last year, and 2 so far this year.
What people often forget that Charlotte is only about 20 minutes longer to VT than UNC. During VT's best years that was our combination.
Anyways, I am going to say and watch to see what SMU does now with access and their $$$$$$$
Not that they will be in the same league of USC, Washington, Oregon....but I want to see if recruiting improves for San Diego St, UNLV, etc if they reform the PAC....

Arkansas got TE Luke Hasz from Oklahoma and was having a stellar freshman year before he got hurt.
