The early Bayou Bashes at the Sheraton atrium. Those were a lot of fun.

They had them at another location prior to the atrium, and I’m blanking on it now. Going back to the Dinardo era.

Plus the rumors that Coach O helped steer McKnight to USC

rumors?
O spoke openly about it in the book "Meat Market"

quote:

Orgeron dialed up old pal Pete Carroll and told him Joe McKnight would be their next Reggie Bush and was better than any back in the country. "I wanna help Pete," Orgeron later said, "but it doesn't hurt to get Joe away from LSU."

I don't think it was on Signing Day, but when Peyton announced he was coming back to Tennessee for his Senior Year.

Something that took place over a longer period than just signing day was the recruitment of Lache Seastrunk, who signed with Oregon, but ended up at Baylor. He seemed like a nice kid, but was taking advise from a "Mentor", or maybe a "handler", the infamous Willie Lyles, who almost got a few programs in trouble with the NCAA.

Lache got his grandmother to sign for him to go to Oregon, because his mom wouldn't sign for him. She wanted him somewhere else. After the NCAA found out schools were paying Lyles thousands of dollars and started investigating Oregon, Lache, who was from Temple, TX, left Eugene and came home.

Here's a pic of Lache (on the right) with Cassius Marsh (on the left), who ended up at UCLA, with Willie Lyles(next to Lache), at an LSU game.

Don't remember who the kid on crutches is.

ETA: Is it Terrance Toliver?

The first one i went to was Saban’s first year. That may have been when we signed Michael Clayton and that group. It was a gigantic party and pep rally that started in the morning and lasted until late afternoon. You paid to get in and the beer taps were open.
T
At the end the band played the fight songs and Saban gave a speech. He was amazed that something like this was happening in February.
Same with Miles in his first year.
Fun times.

Didn't some snow bunny GF get hip-checked out of the TV screen by a player's mom?

That was the NFL draft, wasn't it? The one I'm thinking was NSD and the mother Angel Reese'd the girl right out of the picture.

Robert Meachem shocking every person on the face of the earth and signing with Tennessee instead of in-state Oklahoma.

Ulysses Alexander signing his letter of intent for Tennessee but accidentally sending it to Auburn. Auburn wouldn’t release him so he was a Tiger, although he didn’t amount to much.

I have never understood why black people need “mentors” and “handlers.”

How the shite have they taken mentor and turned it into something so goddamn sketchy?

Well the unfiltered answer to that is that a large percentage of them don't have a present father

So they need wildly obvious sketchy fricks to steal money from them?

Saban HAD to have been setting up some of those situations.
Every year the LSU coaches that were recruiting kids Alabama was also recruiting, felt good about signing them up until the moment they committed to Bama. We always thought he told all of the kids that LSU was recruiting to hold off on announcing until NSD. I don't know what he told them, as far as why they should wait, but I always thought it was so we couldn't recruit similar level guys to replace them. We knew Saban had the kind of sway with kids that he could get them to announce their commitment whenever he wanted to. They were all his secret commits, and he didn't want them to tell the other teams coaches they were already committed.

I remember telling this site for months that Janzen Jackson was not coming to LSU and people still believed.

Coach O is the one who started that shite. I don't think Saban really did it until after O did it with JJ.

This was a Pete and Coach O special. They always had top out of state guys keep quiet until the last minute to avoid outside pressure to flip back to the hometown team.
