Miracle on Ice is my pick. The Soviet Union team was a machine that could consistently beat NHL teams, would have been a favorite to win the Stanley Cup had they been an NHL team... and that's considered the highest level of the sport.

For American college upsets, Chaminade beating Virginia in basketball is ahead of anything else. That would be like Indiana Wesleyan beating Alabama in football.

Iron Sheik defeating Bob Backlund for the WWF title. BB was champion for many years until Sheik put him in the camel clutch.

Michigan was shite.

Uh...???

They beat then No. 9 (9-3) Florida in the Citrus Bowl under Urban Meyer to end the year.

A Florida team that lost to consensus National Champion LSU by 4 points.

Ohio State (National Championship game runner-up) 14, Michigan 3.

Michigan was hungover drunk in the Appy game. Sure Appy State won the FCS National Title that year but no D1 team that finishes in the Top 20 and beat a Top 10 SEC school at the end of the year, while playing the Big10 Champ close, should lose to an FCS school. (Appy State lost to Wofford and Georgia Southern that year.)

USA over USSR

USA was full of rag tag college kids, who barely made nhl rosters.

USSR were professionals, and some of best players in the world. they crushed team usa in warm ups by 5-6 goals a game. russians were beating teams by 6-7 spots.

Leicester is the biggest upset at 5000 to 1.

It's kinda unfair though because it's impossible for 1 game to match an entire season of upsets.

If we leave sports ill go with the Battle of Myeongnyang where 13 Korean Warships defeated 150± japanese ships.

They also used a steel cable ala battle of the blackwater

Exactly. ULM upset a then top 10 ranked Arkansas in 2012. 2007 Alabama was 6-4 and had just lost to Mississippi State for the second straight year.

Arkansas went 4-8 in 2012

Mahomes beating Burrow last year. Based on how his trashy family and Travis Kelce reacted to it.

How about a few years ago when UMBC upset #1 seed Virginia in the tournament. Not only was that the first time a 16 seed ever defeated a 1 seed, they blew them out by 20 as well.

Since we’re mostly focused on championship games, NC State over Houston is a candidate.

When you look at that Leicester squad they had players, people just didn’t know about them yet.

Hard to fully explain how stunning it was at the time when Tyson lost to Douglas.

Here's a really deserved nomination that I haven't seen mentioned.

Rulon Ellis Gardner won the gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games by defeating Russia's three-time reigning Olympic gold medalist Aleksandr Karelin.

Rulon wasn't just an underdog. Karelin was possibly the most dominant athlete ever prior to losing. Karelin had been unbeaten for 13 years in international competition prior to the upset.

Douglas over Tyson or Miracle. Leicester's win was unprecedented but they had some amazing players and the usual big boys in the Prem all had subpar seasons. certainly still a massive upset but hindsight pegs it back. still no answer as to how Douglas and Miracle happened.

Certainly not the biggest but the biggest I made money on was Farleigh Dickinson upsetting Purdue last year
